Starting Engine

For some reason recently when I start my car it seems to take a couple of seconds before the motor catches and fires up. It's almost like if you had a flat battery and it turns over but doesn't actually start, although it does always start. It seems to do this whether the engine's warm or cold and only in the last month or 2. It always fires to life after a couple of seconds but should it not fire up striaght away?

Anyway had similar or know what this might be or am I just being a little paranoid and it's nothing and is fine?

Thanks for any help/advice.

My car sometimes takes a few whirs from cold, but never more than a second.

When the engine is hot, it often fires straight in even quicker. I would have thought that from hot it should always fire quicker (i may be wrong though).

How old are you spark plugs? Since I've put Denso Iridium plugs in, I believe my engine fires to life a bit quicker (or maybe that's just a result of my full service recently).

Phil.

mk1's had starting problems due to a sensor when hot. Some threads about it on here I think.

I had this on mine after having a service done e.g. spark plugs which means connectors get disturbed.

Subsequently had a throttle pedal error circuit error as well.

basically I got my mechanic to disconnect all connectors in the engine bay, check the pins are not bent (there are alot of them trust me and they are crap) then clean with a connector spray and reconnect.

this solved the problem as it now fires straightaway from cold.
