Silverstone classic 2025.

Hi any particular reason why we aren’t going. It’s a fantastic event and it’s the only one I can get my better half to do because it’s not simply a day at a race track, watching racing There’s so much more going on. What’s the reason for not attending after a good few years of being part of a great event

Better leave the organisers to explain properly but it was an organisational shambles/nightmare from the SIlverstone side as I was told, so much so its put the team off from doing it again.

Plus, after all the hassle, the turnout was terrible - I went on the Saturday and if i'd put the effort in to organise and got that turnout I wouldnt do it again either. I was very surprised given how many were there the year before.

Perfect summary.

Anyone looking for an opportunity to blow away the cobwebs in 2025 should look at the Circuit club de Magny-Cours event. It kind of clashes with Silverstone which was another consideration.

Historically, I have attended Silverstone Classic/Festival with another club (see pic) - so there’s usually a way forward.

Silverstone organisation and as close to zero turnout for V6 as you could get was an poke in the eye to all the time and effort put in particularly by Lankan that from an organisational stand point it was a total insult, unless people show interest and commitment it just isn’t worth the bother, we got more cars from other Renault models than Vees on the stand!

I was gutted I couldn't get down to Silverstone last year but did make my intentions clear early doors.

I have seen the work which goes into place from a far so probably only seeing 10%, of it all so it is a shame hearing about the above.

Although the line up above is still intresting a Phase 1 V6 would have finished it off 8) maybe a Trophy and a Spyder.

Anyway, I'd say if Silverstone or a similar event takes place I'd always recommend and it is usually more than just a car show.

Sorry folks, after the train crash that was trying to negotiate a sensible/pragmatic approach (in 2024) with the organisers with regards to setup and de-rig, which was unsuccessful to say the least, and, then not to have the expected number of cars (Clio V6's and others) in the display area, was the last straw.

We did receive an invitation for 2025 (in November 2024), but the organisers (Silverstone) are not willing to reinstate the setup and de-rig processes as they were prior to 2024, which meant a huge amount of hassle and red tape, filling in irrelevant forms, signing up to TeamCard (Silverstone's online portal for contractors) and T's & C's relevant to contractors, having to have photo ids, and all manner of other nonsense meant that I wasn't willing to go through that again.

By all means, if someone else is willing to step up and take over, do PM me and I would be happy to answer any questions and pass on the relevant details. If not, then I don't believe we will return to Silverstone. Having said that, the event at Circuit club de Magny-Cours (that Kett has posted a link to), and the road trip, may just be the best alternative that is on offer for 2025.

As the person who opened this can of worms, thanks everyone for the info and back story. I do appreciate a lot of effort goes into us/me arriving at the event with everything sorted. However we had booked Saturday and there was no way, despite having paid, that me and mi lady were tramping round in the p…..g rain all day. Silverstone was the only event we attended with the club because it’s the best. If the club isn’t attending in future we’ll go in the daily and bid you farewell and good luck. Thanks for the good bits

I would contact Stephen Dell at Renault Alpine Owners Club. There’s a good chance they will attend and they’d always welcome Vee compadres.

There is a small cohort of Vee owners planning to attend Magny-Cours. Keen to see how that pans out, because those sort of events remind us why we love driving them.

Shame about Silverstone. My experience is that once a risk assessment asks for this, that & the other - it’s quite difficult to undo.

We had a chap come over from the VW Corrado club where attendees were similarly down. Seems they had been cannibalising non-runners to keep the good ones going. Turns out that the option has run dry and spare parts are now non-existent. I think V6 owners have similar challenges in general.

I'd be keen to do another event, but Silverstone is a long way for us. The logistics were a pain in the ass and it cost me way over a grand In transport (plus damage to the car) + hotel + flights...and these days, the enjoyment is less so than it used to be. Goodwood years ago was miles better imo, and very well attended.

With that said, genuinely appreciate the graft that goes into these things.

Come to the ClioSport festival at Anglesey and get your car on the track :)

Loved going to the Silverstone Festival in 2023! Couldn't make it in 2024 due to the 182's engine destroying itself suddenly.

It would be great to get at least one V6 at Cliosport Festival this year.

Thanks Lankan for hosting these events. I hope there will be more UK events planned to get more Vee's together one day (even though I don't own one...)

I will take mine if I can find a driver for it. Ill be in the 220 Trophy for the track time. I will take the Vee for some laps though, obviously!

Train crash indeed!

Silverstone was difficult to organise back when I did it, after that it became an absolute nightmare to deal with them.

I will be posting about this very soon.
