Side pods.

I could possibly be after some spare silver side pods.
I like black on black. But wouldn't mind having the option to change them if I get bored. Rather than getting them sprayed, I would like to change them when I like. This might be a daft idea, but is it possible to get spare ones at a reasonable price? Or are they pretty rare?

From Renault prices.

Jesus! Wasn't expecting that much! Any particular reason the RH is more? Thanks anyway.

Copies on eBay can be had for under £100, not sure on the quality though.

Maybe i'll have a deep search of internet / eBay etc.

Seen these come up a few times, EBay

Look quite good but will probably need to put something in for the grille to fix to and the mould line down the front lip will need flatting off for me ;) But for £90 posted can't argue.

Its nice to see Renault helping out with such reasonable prices, Anyone reading this and thinking of a new reno should be put off straight away. What good does it do to keep charging these prices, its a shame we cannot get hold of someone with a bit of clout and ask them, i am sure that reno bosses would be as suprised as ourselves.
Are these made by Mitras? the same firm that made the wings and bumpers?

Thanks for the heads up, i think i'll watch these and decide.

I really really cant understand how or why they are that much for a bit of plastic! I'm sure there must be a company i could find local who surely could make a set using mine as a mould?

If i got a spare set i would even give spraying them a go myself, afterall they would be a spare set.

Have a look at plastidip paint, sprays on and peels off when you're bored. Leaving the original colour underneath intact [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]

The eBay ones are sh17 , I bought a pair and sent them back, the fit was terrible , I sent then back and manage to get set from mossyv6

Iv re started this thread as I didn't want to clog the other fellas for sale thread.

Why not get the pods copied? they could be done in injection moulded plastic.

Guy call Pete in Darlington, County Durham does them in GRP, along with all other GRP panels for the Vee, phone him on 01325 380113

I live very close to darlington so would very interested in this. Do we have a name of the company?

A few people seem interested in getting more side pods, maybe we could get a group buy together, something i may look into if i give the guy a call.

Quick google search got me the company P B Fibre Glass Products, know of anyone who has used them?

Go have a look, I know a couple of people who know him and the comments are all very positive! He does a front bumper for £250-00 which is taken from a genuine one, the only bit missing is the polystyrene packing reinforcement, ( I have a spare one that is going to a firm in Birmingham who reckon that they can CNC cut replicas), he has all the GRP panels available so would probably be happy to talk, I have spoken with him and he will be happy to supply anything we want at considerably below Renault price! It may be in the general interest to get his panels 'approved ' to help with avoiding write offs for minor fender benders??

If people are interested then I would happily go down and check it out, and maybe even try and get some discount on some then post them myself. How much these actually cost / or the effort to make them I'm not sure on?

What is the right way to take the pods off? Are they clip in? Or screw job? Remember, I'm a bit new to the vee still ;)

Guessing these are the ones, eBay
Made in Darlington and the seller is 1967pb with 100% feedback :approve:

I didn't see these ones, I had a quick look and found the other fibre glass ones for £80 + £10 posted. Quality however doesn't look to be as good.

2 screws need removing, first is the easy one in the top but the second needs a long extension through the grill. Then the bottom edge just sits in with the tabs on the bottom edge of the pod.

'If' you do go and have a look let us know what sort of quality they are :approve:

I saw some copies a couple of years ago and they were shite, the shape was good but no thickness to them and the inside was just rough fibreglass, this is why an injection moulded copy would be a better option than a laid up fibreglass half assed attempt, these need to be the correct thickness to hold their shape and so you can screw the grilles on properly. these probably wont be cheap to make but that's not where I am coming from, £600 each from reno aint exactly for nothing but we need quality replacements for this car not "it'll do" parts if we hope to keep them on the road, and I don't mean just side pods, I mean bumpers and wings also.
