This is the commonly found marine ply splitter made by Martin in Swansea. Cheap but neat.

Do these splitters actually have any effect at speed or are they purely a cosmetic item?

Difficult to say, I don't think any have been aerodynamically tested.
The light front end is the one of the Vee's dynamic imperfections, so it would be nice to think so.
I'm guessing that Ray's Carbon Fibre front splitter (do a search) and the 197 items would help.

The reason I put one on was cosmetic.
The front bumper underside takes a battering with normal road use... steep drives, flotsam on the roads etc.
Additionally, I would describe the Vee front architecture as "chinless" and a splitter improves the look.
Obviously, some disagree with that statement ;)

Seriously though, my plan this summer is to "get rid" of the splitter and keep the Vee ugly and battered as Renault intended. :approve:

does the 197 have to be cut in anyway to get it to fit or is it a straight bolt on attachment?

i only want it for cosmetic purpose really as i cant see it having much affect on the speed to be honest. my front bumper does catch on steep drives and kerbs as it is lower than standard.

i just dont want it to crack or scuff the front as i no that can be costly. i would rather shell out and get a splitter than wreck my bumper. ::):

I recall thinking of a lesser design.

think that is a little too large! someting a little smaller like the last photo will be sufficient i think!

for a splitter to work it needs to have some depth otherwise its a cosmetic add on or a bumper guard what you will find over a period of time is that lots of members are all looking for there own idea of a paticular modification the amount of variations are generally to great for any one to agree on, so very few projects ever get developed but when some one does actually manage to get something made for the car there is often very little intrest other than talk so my advice for anyone on here is that if you want something making for your car is make it for your self first and dont wary about anyone else

Quite right Ray.

Making something which considers the majority of positive opinions on a style, and trying to keep the real function intact is a nightmare. It would end up looking nothing like you want, so best to go down the unique line as you have done.
