Scottish garages

Looking for somewhere reliable and honest to take my car to. Where have people been and what sort of service did you receive.

Central belt of scotland is the location

What you needing done James?

If its generic stuff out with factory servicing then Falkland Performance in Glenrothes have always seen me right.

I'm starting to get a nasty knock and the brakes are binding slightly. It's off the road currently until I find somewhere to address these issues. Just want somewhere that isn't clueless and don't try and take the piss. Phoned up a "Renault specialist" "a v6 is that the old Williams"?. Just unbelievable to be honest. Got it booked in at a garage a mate suggested had his S3 and 172 in it so I'm hopeful that I have a good experience.

LOL! I've had that too! Is that a Williams? -

- Aye you can tell by the gold wheels can't you!?

A suspension knock? Top mounts most likely.

I think it's an engine/gearbox knock. Had the supension checked and nothing wrong was found. We shall soon see it goes in tomorrow.

I suppose the v6 is quite a rare car but that was supposed to be someone in the know about renaultsports. He then quoted me a service for £200 more than a Renault dealership.

can you describe the knock you have, many on here would probably diagnose this before you take the car in anywhere. also i agree with the specialist comment, i was at a dealers and they popped the bonnet on mine looking for the engine. so its a good idea to take advice from others in your area as to where to take the car, my advice is dont be afraid of a backstreet garage if it comes recomended as many of the guys in these are just as qualified if not more so and are used to working on different or awkward vehicles. once you have a rappore and you feel confident that a job is being well done stick with the same garage.

Low speed in 1st and 2nd if I take my foot off the accelerator at say 2500rpm the car can lurch forward like something is loose causing it to rock. Also when reversing this problem is a lot worse with more movement.

Yeah that's what I'm hoping for with this garage, moving to Aberdeen in the next week so hoping Ali can hook me up with his trusted contacts ;)

sounds like an engine mount problem, possibly the top which is directly behind the driver. there is a stabiliser bar and bush arrangement to take the load of acceleration when the eng pushes the car, look here first but you will have to remove the inner engine cover to get to this. anyone with any other ideas?

Haha did an oil and gas degree at uni so working in Dyce for NOV. also got to work 6 months in Montrose which will be a fun drive every morning.

Yeah the engine mount it what I thought it was and I've said to the garage that are taking it in I think could be that. I will report back tomorrow what it turns out to be.

Just info should you need any.

Yeah let us know, I have the same thing........ I sometimes get a kangaroo effect on mine when taking off slowly ( Wheres my L plates )

Engine mounts had worn, lower and upper, nice £640 for that and the fitting of new discs and pads to be supplied by myself. Sourced front disks and pads for front and rear at a cost of £250. All in all a terrible day haha. Brakes had worn out on the inside which I couldnt see so they looked in good condition prior to it going to the garage.

Bugger, Though that might have been the case with mine, But couldn't really see anything with just the hatch off..

Does anybody do uprated versions.
