Clio S/C ph1 172 boost bus

And........she’s Alive ......

Nope

No spark on cylinders 2 and 3

nutsacks, leads and plugs all ok, 12v to coil pack.
think I need a new amplified coil pack from EFI then. Fortunate then that I am up that way this week for a job interview so will try pop in to see Chris

Hows things going? Noticed you havent been on for a while. All good?

It's with me. Went for mapping, got about 3/4 done and started rattling, Chris rang me to go and look at it, aux tensioner bolt needed tightening up, did that and one noise stopped but about 30 seconds later bottom end was clearly knocking.

Stripped it and typical f4r had span no2 big end and chewed no3 main bearing.

Third bottomed end failure I've seen that's been built with a genuine new oil pump!!

Hmmm, so is that safe to assume you shouldn’t change the oil pump on one of these engines? I see a few advertised recently...?

'if' i was going to use a new pump i'd strip the oprv first and linish/polish it to get rid of the edges left from manufacture and make sure it is free in the pump.

looking at it logically if a pump is fine and is from an undamaged/contaminated engine and is running good pressure in theory there is no need to replace it.

Where did you buy the pump from? Who else has had failures? Is it definitely pump causing this failure?

guessing he will of got it from either renault of ktec but not sure sorry, will try and remember to ask in the morning when i see chris.

couple of people i know of have had the oprv stick open, new and used pumps. and i'd say 90% of bottom end failures i know of have been no2 big end and if the engine has been stripped majority also had damage to no3 main bearing as well.
