Running 2 cars

Ok so I normally use the vee as my daily drive but i'm seriously considering getting a second car as a runabout and garaging the vee on a regular basis for use on weekends.

I just wondered (as I know many of you have the vee as a second car) what the general thoughts are for insurance? Do most of you use multi-car policies or do you have two separate policies?

Any advice appreciated :)

Another thing to add is i'm currently with Admiral for my vee.

Which company did you go with James?

I couldn't get a multi-car policy due to my other car being a modified import but otherwise they look promising as a cost effective option.

The other thing to consider is a low mileage specialist policy for the Vee and a normal policy for your second car, depends what that is really ...

If you don't plan to put many miles on the vee then you could probably get it insured on a classic policy. Try giving Hagerty or CCI a call.

full NCB and no points on Cup
Hagerty on Clio V6

Ive got the vee and the cooper s on an admiral multicar policy and i pay £700 for both cars.

I suppose its just worth shopping around to see which works out cheaper, i was happy paying that for both of mine! :approve:

Are you using the ncb for both policies?

How does it work for ncb? I don't know anyone who runs 2 cars to ask, but i've got 9 years no claims with the vee. I'm guessing I can't apply that to both cars can I? Can I split them :)

Em, think you can only use your NCB against one policy.
But some companys now offer the multicar policy and will offer a dicount on both cars as they both come under 1 policy.
Hagerty don't use the NCB ( as Matt stated above ) so you could run a second car and use your 9 years NCB on that policy. I'm thinking of doing the same ;)
Think we'll have a word with Matt tomoz :)

i've just done a multi car wirh admiral. 1000 pound for both the vee and vw passat est. thats with jade on the policy too. also with 7yrs ncb on clio v6. well happy. i was paying more justt on the vee without jade on it. i'm 25 and jade is 23

Emma,

From my experiences and concerns on the same matter ...

Some companies will 'mirror' your NCB onto your second car but won't always protect the mirrored bonus. This is what I was able to do when the Vee was purchased and I used the same insurer as my Toyota. From my research, other companies offered an introductory bonus on a second car and so it was possible to swap the biggest bonus to the most expensive car.

When I moved to Hagerty's, who don't use an NCB system (think this is common with this type of specialist policy), the second set of NCB I had accumulated sat in limbo - Hagerty's said they would provide a statement if I moved the Vee from them and wanted to re-instate the second bonus back into life.
