Ricardo's 200EDC Progress Thread

The journey goes on, small changes but IMO making big impacts. I feel it's all tying up nicely now, the Clio almost looks complete. The red bits over time just didn't work for me, it looked too fragmented. It's a car, not a racecar or dedicated trackday car, it now looks like something clean and tidy in appearance, each to their own as they say. Even seeing it back on the red Cup wheels trackday ready at Blyton took the edge off it for me so I'm sure they'll be going up for sale with the Cup 2s on and will keep the black Cup wheels as a winter wheel.

220 Trophy wheels, I wanted something different. Black is OE and done, even the option 200 colour with a tinge of grey was out. No, they're going silver with a touch of fleck. Tidy, clean, understated, and with the right drop, would work. My friend Steve sorted the powder coating on the wheels and had the new Pilot Sport 4 tyres fitted too. We literally fitted the wheels with new wheel studs Thursday night so they were ready for CSF22.

Now that episode is done and they're on I can take things at a more leisurely pace, there's more to do. It's not finished but it's getting there.

Big thanks to TurboRenault for having Kate onboard taking photos all day. Really happy with the outcome, it also reinforces that decision to go silver with the 220 wheels.

Blyton was amazing, hot weather and a perfect opportunity to catch up with old friends I've not seen since pre Covid and to new faces. To think at one point in the darkest depths of the pandemic that standing in a field full of cars chatting and laughing away with a cold beer might never happen or at least felt a million miles away.

But we were blessed with that weekend, a great reunion 🤗😊

P.S does anyone know Kate's insta so I can tag her in please.

Happy to take the credit for that one rofl.gifwe actually booked it for the 2020 CSF and had to carry the booking for two years!

I dont think we will be able to do it EVERY year, not for free at least (or all to charity as it is now), cos its quite expensive when you look at our income, but it was a great thing to have for our return-to-CSF after a 3 year gap. Kind of hoping now we have had a great reaction to it that we will be able to get people to contribute a little next time.

Thread update time, blimey it's been just over a year! Let me back track, aaah yes.

October 2022, new roof wrap in Hexis gloss black but with a change. A pillars and spoiler stay white so literally just the roof wrapped, at the same time Mark of B Spoke swapped out the OE aerial for a genuine Renault shark fin and removed the silver Renaultsport badge and replaced with a genuine black pack Renaultsport one. Black being the theme here to go with the black front blade and rear diffuser.

December insurance renewal with Keith Michaels, decent price considering a big claim in 2020 and a highly modified car.

As of then not much to report until July this year, well apart from the genuine Renault battery dying in less than 3 years so covered under the warranty. BUT absolute ballache as the battery was purchased by the previous owner in Carlisle and the Renault dealer there couldn't provide an invoice to show it was paid as they'd updated their IT systems. Spoke to Renault customer services and they said the battery wasn't covered as I didn't have the Clio recovered into Renault for them to have a tech test the battery. SADLY, the warranty department at my Renault branch FAILED to tell me this right from the start when I purchased a new battery to replace the dead one. Bear in mind I bought the battery in February, this process was still ongoing into July. All the warranty department kept saying for months was provide an invoice for the old battery and we'll put the claim in.

I'd had enough after speaking to customer services, I steamed into my branch and spoke to the branch manager who I know really well. After explaining the frustrating situation with him we both marched to the parts department in which within 20 minutes they refunded me the price of the faulty battery at a cost of £190, finally they sorted it out! Absolute pain!

Impending MOT gave me the kick in the butt to tick a few jobs off a list that quite frankly couldn't be bothered to deal with. Very unlike me but for months going through a phase of owning it but neglecting it, sitting out on the road looking sorry for itself. Since the MOT in 2022 she's done less than 3k

Thankfully through a friend Sash having work done on her Clio by a chap called Ed, Ed working for Renault as a tech had decided to go it alone as an independent mechanic setting himself up nice and local to me. With that I booked it in with him to replace the broken wiper linkage, have it MOT'd and give it an oil and filter change as well as the pollen filter. All parts bought from Renault and supplied by me, I also changed all the wiper blades from Renault too, even the keycard battery. So now the service light has been cleared, keycard battery low gone, everything 😁

With all those jobs done I thought the Clio deserved a much needed clean commandeering my sister's driveway for a few hours. It's looking so much better, I really like it at the moment. 2 more jobs I'd like doing, a 220 steering wheel and finally I have someone making the adapter looms for the rear LED lights.

Crikey - is the wiper arm breaking a common thing on these?
All Mk4s were recalled but I didn't think it was for the linkage body, it was actually the linkage bar that connects the linkage to the motor. The blades would stick to a frozen screen and if left on auto mode it would snap the bar so they fitted a revised part.

The linkage I had fitted was a measly £20 part from Ebay but I utilised the revised bar to connect to the OE Valeo motor. It works absolutely fine, so far.... Fingers crossed for the £20 part! Much cheaper than paying around £170 at Renault.

Sourced an OE 220 Trophy steering wheel from Ebay and should be with me tomorrow, will have the Clio booked in next week for fitting.

Turning my attention to the sound system, the rear speaker isn't working so I'm looking to swap out all 4 for much better quality speakers along with speaker adapters. Also need to look into Dynamat to put inside the doors just to dampen the vibration. Not worth going crazy as there aren't really much aftermarket options when it comes to the infotainment headunit.

Turns out it's just a regular RS steering wheel 😁 they fitted this on all models, only difference being the RS Font 🤷 anyway it arrived today which was super quick as I only bought it a day ago. In really good condition bar a couple of faint pressed marks on the back of the left side grip.

Interesting, my trophy wheel has red stitching rather than the leather 'centre' marker. Mines a Ph1 though...maybe different...

Thread update... Finally... FINALLY! I can tick the steering wheel and LED rear light installation box! 😁

A friend of mine came good by making the loom adapters for the rear lights that connect to the existing rear light looms and the new lights. It's the very last set he's making as it's time consuming not only ordering and waiting for the parts from China but the making them up in his spare time too.

After speaking to Ed the ex Renault tech now ELF Automotive we set a date to swap steering wheels and fit the LED rear lights. The light units themselves are a straight swap, but the units on the tailgate need a power feed from the rear light loom which is located behind the carpet on the passenger side of the boot. So 2 wires have to be fed from that side of the boot into the tailgate to join into the connectors that plug into those lights. I'm glad Ed did the job as it requires unclipping various parts of the interior and headlining to feed the wire so it's all neatly hidden and follows the original tailgate loom.

The Clio already had the front 220 LED headlights so for me it was a no brainer to have LED rear lights, they also look so much better than the standard pre facelift rear lights too. I had a 220 Trophy years ago and IMO they just look so much better than the older 200s, I think my Clio now is more 220 than 200.... It's an absolute bastard of 2 model Clios 😅

I think this also marks it coming up to 2 years of owning this car as well, for me now these 2 jobs are done they are the last bits I really wanted doing to make the Clio exactly how I wanted it to be ☺️
