Renix data output

Okay, I had a pfaff about with the car today after having done some research and found how the data output works, hooked it up and managed to liberate the data stream from the car onto the computer.

Someone on the Jeep forums had written a little program that decodes the data stream into some of the more common bits of information and sticks them up on the screen in the form of lines.

It worked, I cranked it over, sprayed a bit of carb cleaner down its neck and it registered that.

I just need to see what would be able to read that data stream in real time.

Still, a good thing. I can interface the car with a run-of-the-mill laptop.

I'm going to check if this is compatible with our USB cables, i imagine it should be. What models it supports is another thing

That software isn't as good as yours though. I had to use the cable I made to dump the car's output to disk, then use the program to read the file.

So is the diag socket electrical interface directly interfaceable to a pc like RS-232? I guess it uses serial data transfer!?

No, not directly but it is just outputting a serial datastream

As soon as I have time I'll be putting together an article about it

PM me if you want any info
