Renault Trafic T1000/espace

I've done a bit of reading, the Trafic and espace share some parts, and I think the espace and 21 share some engine parts, but I don't know exactly as not researched enough.
Basically I've bought an early shape T1000 with 1700cc engine, the clutch is copeable but is on the way out so when the engine comes out I'm debating a change. There's not enough room to fit the Volvo turbo engine in, it will physically fit and mate to the gearbox, I think, but it would need a different inlet manifold as it would foul the bulkhead and dubious if the gearbox would actually cope. Now as the van can also comes with the 2ltr diesel/espace lump and I presume it's similar to the 21 version, although I don't know which box it uses yet. So, my thoughts are, would the j7r and un1 box fit. I know it could be made to, I'm just wondering how close it would do? Any ideas?

Oh I ain't touching it yet, just tootling round in it for work to make it last. Just looking at options for when the clutch does give up, and possibly the box. I'm saving for bits for the 21 engine build, just gotta finish the bathroom before I can get some proper car time in.

Is the van not transverse then? The last longtitudinal engined Renault van I saw was the carb'd J-Series powered D-Reg Master my mum and dad had (Camper conversion).

Nope, f block longitudinally, FWD with what I think is an NO5 box, it's that old in design it has cooling fins on the casing with ducts from the front bumper. I've not even had chance to clean off the muck and read the plate.

21 NG box any use to you ?
Mate of mine bought it years ago but never picked it up .I collected it for him late last year as I was passing the sellers gaff .Turned out it was a NG not a UN1 as he was told so it's in the parts bin .......
