Hi All,

It may be time to move on... I am now considering selling my Renault 5 GT Turbo EBS Convertible. It's very rare, being one of only 14 made in Right-Hand Drive and one of the earlier type (the car was cut down to the bare floorpan and built up with custom rear quarters, doors, etc...

I bought the car in 2010 and had it extensively restored. All panels except the doors were new (including the custom tailgate) and it was resprayed in Renault Sports Blue. The restoration was completed in about 2012. I fitted power steering using a Clio 182 rack and an electric pump from a Citroen Saxo. The difference is amazing! The Clio rack is much quicker than the GTT one and it makes the whole driving experience so much better. It's done about 95,000 miles (from memory). It's MOT'd until May next year and would be great for Summer fun!

The car was originally bought new by Sean Connery's son, Jason.

Good points:
  1. Bodywork is in excellent condition
  2. Engine strong - custom downpipe and double capacity intercooler fitted. Was not reconditioned as part of the restoration, although I did the head gasket recently
  3. Carburettor recently rebuilt
  4. Power steering is fabulous!
  5. Custom alloy rocker cover
  6. Leather front seats. Material supplied for the back seats to match
  7. Original GTT front seats supplied with the car (need some work)
  8. Some other spares come with the car, including some inner rear wing parts, etc.
Not so good:
  1. Dashboard not very good condition. Excellent used one supplied with the car
  2. The hood isn't that great although it's perfectly serviceable - the rear window is in good condition but a bit scratched in places and there's a small hole that could do with stitching up - I think it's rubbing on something
  3. It rattles a bit and the fit and finish of the windows and the hood isn't too good. I just drive it with the hood down all the time!
  4. Strut brace needs fitting
  5. Front tyres a bit worn on one edge due to the tracking being out for a while - this was rectified when I fitted the power steering
  6. One wheel arch liner needs fitting (supplied)
I want in the region of £13,000 due to the rarity of the car and the fact that its bodywork is completely restored.
More photos can be supplied on request.

Yeah I know. I'm very sad about it, to be honest. I'm still not sure I want to sell it as I love my collection, but for personal reasons it may be a good idea to move on.
Also reconsidering selling my Gordini Turbo too!
If I do sell I may well replace either car or both cars with something different.
My criteria are:
  1. Needs to be able to transport the family
  2. Must be either a convertible or have air con
  3. Budget up to about £20K
I want to get excited about replacing it/them. Thoughts on cars to consider? Doesn't necessarily need to be Renault, or even particularly fast. I have the A610 for "fast"!

Tough gig that one. I hit a 20k barrier when looking for cars. Nowt seemed to appeal for the cash.

VW Phaeton is vast , comfy but a bit dull
You will get a leggy c63 for £20k

Opposite ends really !
