21 Turbo Renault 21 Double Din head unit?

I am idly wondering if anyone has tried fitting a double-din head unit to a Renault 21/knows if it is possible?
It looks like there is room, but there is a plate that separates the oddments tray from the opening for the factory fit stereo. It all would need some butchering, but...
