Renault 11 Turbo's in UK how many left? Attempt to track them all down...

As you may be aware I'm in the process of restoring a R11 Turbo and have been keeping a very close eye on Renault 11's for the past few years that have come up for sale etc. According to howmanyleft.co.uk there are only 8 R11 Turbo's still registered on UK Roads, and their data shows there were 35 declared SORN back in 2007.
Capture.JPG
So I thought I would try to create this thread to see if we can't trace every (potential) 43 R11 Turbo's in the UK?? If you have one that is not shown on this thread, then please post a photo?

If I have any further detail or additional pictures I posted them here. Different pictures show different time's they've come up for sale and they condition they were in at that time:

Brilliant write up here from when @Turbell owned this car:
E23TTH was mine from '92 to '08/09 at a guess, bought with 52999 miles on the clock when I was nineteen.
I paid £3000 plus my '82 Fuego GTS and thought I had won the pools ( think lottery if you're not as old and crusty as me! ) my mate bought a 5GT and that was another grand or so ( E*** VUB, red ?) which shows the S/H price difference then.
In time it had a little boost upgrade at well lane, a green induction kit and a scorpion exhaust and I had loads of fun in it, mostly beating nobbers in SRi XR etc crap.
I never went mad tuning it, but it was a good strong engine that always pulled and boosted well, so you could pick your enemies at the right point and just muller them!
Even though it bigger than a five I don't think it was that heavier, all the panels were really thin.
I did the head on him and put a clutch in, plus brakes etc etc
As he ( sorry, he had a name...........Terry Thomas, ( E23 T T H....... bit of a cad you see...) got older the handling went off the boil and I nearly rolled him more than once, so I bought a '92 16V 19 with the engine in the boot in bits which I had rebuilt and ran it for seven years until a kindly drunk gyspy with no insurance rammed me into a Polo and made it a few feet shorter.
Terry had sat tucked up in a corner on the front of the house, so I drove him into the garage and set about putting him back on the road as I was carless and no insurance money.
The lower part of the sills inner and outer had bulged, so I cut some 5 door outers down and let some plates in for the inners, not pretty but it was only to get him back on his wheels, the sunroof panel had been leaking so I took it out and put some new pipes on the inner and repair the bubbling sliding outer, and two packed the roof and bonnet, the sides were fading but OKish.
Other than that I put him back on the road and I think I spent about a ton on him, we had a Clio 172 cup at that time from nearly new so he was just a second car, the handling by now was shite and the Dunlop sp sports I had fitted were now cracking, but the night before I sold him on ebay for £800, I chased a brand new Corsa VXR down the local bypass and he couldn't get away!
The Corsa driver to his credit wasn't a mardy bum like you normally get, 'cos at the last roundabout he pulled up and asked ' What the f**k is under your bonnet' and ' Don't ever sell that car' sadly within 24 hrs he was gone...............
I've always toyed with hunting him down and buying him back...........but the past is the past, love to know how he is tho' I had good times in that car.

Thanks for reading, sorry if I've rambled.

Richie , from the old RTOC gang still has 2 , Red 11 Turbo's... both phase 2...., 1 was a runner and used until recently and the other was being done as BIG HP car... but still sat there..

I own a phase 2 r11 turbo in silver also F*** RHN.

It has been in storage forgotten about since around 03/04 and is in need of work as it was an abandoned project ( I was 16 at that time and had bitten off more than I could chew tbh) it is easy salvageable though and I will hopefully get round to sorting it sometime soon.

I will get some photos next time I'm there to add to this post although it is looking rather sorry for itself untouched for over 10 years!

At least that's another one to add too the list above.

Thanks, matty

Larger heavier shell, widened track so handling wise abit better than a 5, not as fast as weighs more. Bigger engine bay, better wiring, same trusty old C1J with either phase 1 or phase 2 cooling/breather systems.

The Renault 11 Turbo was only made in 3 door version, the Renault 9 Turbo was a 5 door, both in the UK. As far as I know, there were no 5 door Renault 11 Turbo's made for the UK market.

All digi pics are from his second bout of use, there's more but I need to upload 'em into photobucket, not sure what's your preferred photo lark.......This is one of the ebay pics I used, think it will be feb 08/09, pretty sure it's 09 as I bought the Slaguna on an 04 and think it was about four and half years old.
i576.photobucket.com_albums_ss205_turbell_062.webp
New owner came from Stoke I think, didn't seem to know his arse from his elbow as far as Renault Turbo's were concerned, had to go to the bank to fetch the cash, I think he expected a shitbox, and was going to wriggle out of it.
He rang me a few days later and said he really enjoyed driving the car, but when did it have the cam belt done?...........oh dear.
I think he rang me again and said the starter was playing up, but then I lost contact with it until I spotted on a forum or website or summat with red mirrors and clio 16v wheels and a 19 16v rear beam, felt like someone had fiddled with a family member a bit............but at least he was getting attention.
At the time I had mine on the road, there was a really nice F plate local to me that a women used to drive, and it came up for sale in the trade quite a while after...........I always kick myself for not buying it.
I remember a white doggy looking one in Sheffield I used to see, and a 9 Turbo in Worksop with Ph1 19 16V wheels that looked nice.
Hmmmmm I got an itch!

When I was running a C reg R11 Turbo from new in 1985, did visit a Paris showroom and the 11 Turbo was sold in 5 door, there was one in the show room. Early R11 Ts where rear tube torsion bars. When I ordered mine it came with the modified rear angle bar configuration for the 1885/86 model year. When a work mate went out with me he couldn't believe that my 11 was faster on acceleration than his 2.8 capri! Happy days.

Hello All!!

I've been updating this thread a little today (Check back to the first post for more cars and details) and also built a little Excel file of all the known R11 Turbo's on UK road so far. Can't seem to upload it to the site, so you're going to have to take my word for it and just see a few screen shots!! :au:

So what does this tell us?

The newest car we know about is the Silver R11T (F315 KMX) that recently sold on eBay for £2000 that was registered on Jan 89!

The oldest car still in existance (according to the DVLA) is B300 JPK owned by our very own member @plvehicles :friends.gif:

The Only two R11T's currently roadworthy in the UK are owned by @R5turbo2 (F533 HNM) and @Prab (D340 OOD)

Keep updating this thread guys & girls if you want your car added to the list! :ea:

Just joined the group. Have a GTA from '89 that I've owned since '92 and giving it a light refresh after too many years of not really using it.
But saw all this and memories (all happy) of my R11 Turbo D reg in red came flooding back. It was so quick and comfy and almost refined, and mostly drove well although I remember some understeer. Loved it. Hard to believe it's only 115 bhp but they were nice and light.
Splendid - and good luck and thanks to anyone still enjoying these rare old beasts.
