Tomorrow's the big day to take the 11 to the body-shop, so I hired a trailer today. As I need to take the body-shell, rotisserie and no end of other faffy bits, I hired myself a big feck off 17ft trailer :df: thankfully my new motor makes light work of it..
Given I'd driven 'thru a biblical rain storm on the way home, when I finally arrived and realised it wasn't raining, I thought it was too good an opportunity to get the car loaded today as the weather report for this weekend doesn't look too great so got cracking:
Thanks to @jas_racing's suggestion, I bought a cheapie car cover for exactly this eventually, and it's built in clips come in quite handy:
So got the car all strapped down and basically ready to go tomorrow morning and all told it only too me an hour to do all this, easy peasy!!
Wish me luck!! :dm:
Successfully took the car to the body-shop on Saturday :ay: I was pleased I'd loaded the car onto the trailer on Friday evening because come Saturday morning the weather was pretty horrific!
The waterproof cover I bought was about as much use as a chocolate fire-guard.. as I checked the car on Saturday morning and it was totally wet thru inside :an: and only lasted about 5 miles of the journey on the car as it was flapping about in the wind like one of the sails from the black pearl!! We ended up pulling over and ripping the cover off and driving the rest of the journey with the car open to the elements. Thankfully by this time the rain had stopped and the car dried out:
We soon arrived at M.A.R.C in Melton Mowbray and unloaded the car..
... dragged it into the bodyshop..
... and then mounted it back onto the rotisserie:
Whilst I was there I took a few pictures of some of the other cars he has in at the moment:
... including a MK1 Escort Mexico he is currently re-painting for Graham Goode Racing for a rich Arab's museum. It's fair to say this thing won't be seeing much of a rally stage in it's future...:
I'll be going back this coming weekend to have a look and see what he's made of it and perhaps put the axle's back on after he's (hopefully) painted the underneath..? Will keep you all posted.
Whilst I had the trailer, I pulled the old Raider out of storage and brought it back home so I can get it MOT'd for another years shenanigans:
I had a close look at the rogue tyre at the weekend when I was fiddling with the car and noticed that it had a significant build up of scrubbed rubber on the outside 2/3 of the tyre so removed it with a scraper. I'll give the tyre another trip round the block to see if that was the cause of the horrific pulling to one side I experienced that afternoon after the trackday...?
Just read the entire thread, the work you've put in is top of the line mate, didn't quite realise when this thread was started until you mentioned you bought the car over 5 years ago! Fair play if you want the job done right
Really helps with your own projects reading builds like this by other people and the attention to detail. Look forward to seeing more :af:
Had a ride past the Body-shop on my way home from Liverpool today for a quick update on activities.
Not much changed at first sight, but when you look deeper, you can see a fair bit of work has been done.. The dent in the Near/Passenger Side rear quarter has been hammered out and made good (I didn't take a picture of the back of the panel, but believe me it's not knee deep of filler there like it was before, it's just a very thin skim!)
Both doors have been de-locked also:
And then a load of other dents & marks have been removed:
Agreed the next time I will go over will be at the end of May for another progress update so looks like you're going to have to wait patiently like me :dw:
