Renault 11 Turbo Phase 2 Restoration

I’d of passed it from the office . And a road test of course,
Got to see It up at Mallory , a credit to you sir , But fully agree , give it the once over and maybe a fresh set of eyes , not doubting you abilities but I find that’s a good idea when you have but things back together in fits and starts .

Could this be the epic R11 resto thread "Fin!"?

79 pages and... how many years?
Funny I was just thinking the same recently as well, and hoped it would have got to 80 pages… and what do you know!? We did it!!!

Yea I guess that’s the official finish of the Restoration, now I just want to actually enjoy and drive it!! But you know I’ll be putting a few more photos on here of it enjoying its trips out, so I reckon it’s got a couple of more pages in it yet..!! 😆

Thought I would see what 34 years of development from 1987 - 2021 from the Renault 11 Turbo to the Megane RS 300 Trophy has ACTUALLY achieved.. interesting stats:

Took @Millie_Bee to a 10k run this morning at Rutland Water and the old 11T lapped it up on the trip!

Even managed to get Sarah to drive it there:

She did great and was the 8th fastest Woman on the day!! Amazing considering she’s not part of any running club!!

Anyway following her run, I had a drive home and then got straight under the car to check things over:

Everything looked great. And the only things I found were:
  • Slightly loose rear O/S Caliper retaining bolt - More on this later…
  • Missing retaining bolt on the N/S front brake disc
  • Lots of fire extinguisher powder in both front arches 🙄
Happy with things, I thought I would give it the @Moggy seal of approval:

Was chuffed with such a small amount of bits being found. So to again increase confidence, we took it out this evening to see family and then go for dinner at a local car themed diner that does a great impersonation of Jack Rabbit Slims from Pulp Fiction, which is one of my favourite films:

Car looked great sat outside:

On the drive home I had my first issue. Getting some serious brake disc rub on the O/S rear calliper (remember I found that loose bolt there earlier..??) was making the disk and ultimately wheel 🛞 really hot on the ride home. Stopped a couple of times to check and one time got Sarah to pull the handbrake on and off a couple of times whilst I was looking under the back of the car.

Surprised to see the O/S caliper handbrake lever actuating fine, but the N/S handbrake actuator doing nothing…

Further investigation needed, will report back. 👍

Incredible journey mate, plenty of high’s and low’s! One of the best Renault resto’s i’ve seen! Amazing sourcing of parts! Think you’ve used up the remaing Renault 11 stock everywhere!

Had the same thing on my 11 years ago the calliper mount wasn’t square to the disc , have the calliper to bits check the threaded bit for wear , I know you will have the right pads with the tit on them , but that’s thrown that problem in the past

So the NSR handbrake caliper lever doesnt move?

Will the lever move by hand? If so, is the cable free in the sheath?
No, the NSR lever is moving ok, and applying the handbrake..

I’ve convinced myself that there’s something wrong with the calipers somewhere, so ordered a couple of brand new units to fit before Oulton Park and see if I can find anything else…

In other braking news… I noticed yesterday whilst going for a drive and standing on the pedal, she’s rotating to the left under heavy breaking. Wonder if that’s linked to the issue…?

The MOT test would have highlighted brake imbalance issues, although I think up to 30% discrepancy is still passed. Do you have the brake numbers from the MOT test?

Has a limit valve connected to the suspension position , and is the pipe work correct . Customer changed his own pipes on a 9 once got it mixed up and ended up causing a brake bind issue
Hmmm… I don’t believe I can get it wrong… but who’s to say…!?

Will try the new calipers and run on from there..

Just putting a few ideas and faults I have seen in the pass , not doubting your ability to get things spot on , it’s always something silly that you miss . Like over spray on the starter motor from not taking first prize ,
