Removing a cobra alarm

I've just bought a damaged v6.

It currently won't start. Fuel pump on but no spark.

Irs been lying up for years. I'd like to take the cobra alarm out if the equation as it could be the cause.

Has anyone ever removed the whole system out of the car ?

Any tricks to disable ?

Thanks

The information you seek is probably best sourced from a Cobra Alarm specialist. Unlike all things V6 related; I do not think the archives on this platform will help you to research an aftermarket product.

That aside, my man-maths only had your challenging rebuild project as being financially viable if it ‘turned on the key’.

Possibly time to reappraise?

Plug in an OBD reader, do you see a cranking RPM when it turns over?
Thanks Dave

Yes it's turning in the key

Getting fuel . No spark

My launch diagnostic unit is not communicating

Will try get a Renault diagnostic unit on it

Why does a project need to be financially viable ? Showing the enthusiasm and being proud of the end result are often reward enough !
From what I understand it does 'turn on the key' just wont start, no big thing.

Most alarms just splice into the wiring and can often just be removed or once identified two ends of a cut wire can be rejoined, help from the available wiring diagrams will help. I'm pretty sure there is a pin out for the ecu in the manual so just a matter of getting the correct input and output there.

Said car is a cat B (irreparable damage and can’t be driven again) - for my mind, that’s a mountain of a challenge in the first instance. However, I’m sure Ronan is more than capable of ascending that summit.

However, if it doesn’t ‘turn on the key’ then the situation potentially implies there’s a whole load of electrical complications (from water ingress) to additionally deal with.

Fingers crossed that it’s just the alarm…

Find the alarm base unit, track the wiring back to the loom and find the interrupter connections. Cut them out one at a time and join the original wires back together with solder/heatshrink.

If you still have no spark and no RPM reading look at the crank angle sensor - its probably the simplest thing to try.

Just an update on this and maybe it will help someone in the future:

As the previous posters said , the cobra alarm does look complex because of the shear amount of wires going into the alarm unit but most are either power, grounds, spliced into cental locking, hazard light etc. And these can all be just cut out where spliced. There was only one wire ran through the alarm for ignition. This was simply joined and the rest was straightforward.

Note, the chip from the v6 fob needs to be transferred into a clio key .

Thanks for all the help. Car is running perfect after a 15 year break off the road.
