racing 21t

bowyer

Member
alright people this might sound like a stupid question but when the 21t was racing in 1988 (i think) what type ov power did thay av and as anyone got any pics ov them in action? also what was thay racing against and where did thay finish in races? any wins?

There were two types of racing version Bowyer.

SuperProduction and SuperTouring IIRC.

Expect Lyndon along in a mo to correct me !

I am sure the lower powered of the two was kicking out 300 CV...

cherrs andy u got any pics ov them mate ? , was it just the phase 1 that renault used or did thay use the phase 2 as well?

Crap quality ...

The higher power ones supported F1 racing and was 440 brake , as seen in Jackie stewarts world of speed video (the odd copy crops up on the bay)

The 'lower' powered stuff was about 300 brake, Europa cup cars and the like.

as the guys have said ,, Renault sport used the ph1 in 4x4 form in the french superproduction 1988,,and supertourisme 1989 championships,, they were racing bmws, mercs, peugeots, porches, chevys etc,, they won the title in 1988 with ragnotti driving(grey car in above pics),, and came second in the 1989 title with bousquett driving,(red cars)

additionaly i found out today that a privateer entered a 21turbo into the 1990 and 1991 supertourisme championships, and i reckon from the pic i have of it that it must be teos car(which i thought was just someones very expensive replica)

renault sport also ran their own "europacup" versions in their own series which as dave said, they ran before a few of european f1 and truck racing meets similar to the cliocup series and WSR by renault today

during the early 90's a few privateers bought the ex europacup cars and ran them in various saloon championships in europe such as the Belcar series in holland/belgium, and some entered road style rallies

also renault turkey ran 3 europacup cars in turkish touring car championships at the same time renault had the europacup series in europe

also our very own bob claxton still races his europacup in the northen saloon car championships in the UK, another guy in holland races his over there, and a custom made europacup/quadra still races in belgium

a few were also used in various rally championships but not very successfully, a few still rally today

chris klinkert one of our members has a grpn car that won the manx rally again in the early 90's

lastly, two cars were built to attempt to break the world speed record on ice and broke the record making approx 155mph on ice,,(this has been broken since)

the superpros are all in the museum, along with 2 europacups, the ice record car, and a few grpn/a cars

theres about 20-25 europacups that i know of around europe

Chris's car also won the New Brighton prom rally in about 1989, with its previous owner behind the wheel.

Ohh. Dunno ! I havent got any ftp access at work , and still no net at home.

You might have to ask Mr Lee ...

Superproduction

Hello,

How can tell me more about the way they build the superproduction cars? especially the superproduction car from 1989!

I`m looking for information about air filters, witch turbo they used, and on and on. The more info the better.

because in a couple of years I want to make my quadra as close as possible to a superproduction :good2:

cheers

ow ya Pictures are also more as welcom

good luck...ever seen the a superpro under the bonnet ? Its a "bit" diff. then a standard/GrN/cup car. Only a bit...

Jo,would I be correct in thinking the later Super-Production cars had the engine mounted transverly as opposed to the conventional layout of the standard Europa-Cup cars??

Just something thats been bugging me for ages after seeing some not-so close underbonnet shots of a Super-Pro.

Cheers,Roj
