5 Mk I incl Gordini R5 Turbo Gordini Alpine Project

Hi there

Hoping someone here can help out with some advice. We (the royal we, my husband does all the hard work but not good with reading and computers) are restoring an 84 R5 Turbo Gordini / Alpine. We're needing a petrol tank and headlights and thanks to Brexit! EU sellers are telling us they can't ship to UK?

I've had a look about but no joy. Would we need to customer build a tank and if so, does anyone know how we go about doing that? With the lights, is there a way we can check if any other lights would fit?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, pretty sure Steffan Mather recently had a custom fuel tank made for his TX, you can find him here..https://www.facebook.com/groups/2949983855028662. I managed to save mine, but used POR15 to line the inside. Even if yours has rusted away, keep the sender unit fitting as this could be used again as part of your new one. Also check the sender unit mine was rusted solid, fortunately i had a spare. If you get stuck i have a rusted tank with a hole to one side, could be used as a pattern if you have nothing at all. Headlamps do come up, the Gordini had the halogen type bulbs therefore a different fitting, but in reality you can buy adapters and if a good set came up, but them anyway. People do have them hoarded away so worth keep asking, a sensible price is circa £40-50 each for good second hand ones.

I could possibly help repair a tank.

If needed I could also make something similar but would probably work out expensive to make something that looks close to the original.

Maybe even make a bottom similar to the original?

Cool thanks, really helpful. Its just the edge of the tank and few pin holes, but likely rust inside. I think perhaps professional repair is the best bet. I'll have to keep looking for the headlights. We'll get there in the end! Thanks again.

Thanks for all your recommendations. Quick update. The tank has been repaired by a company in MK & managed to source headlights from Italy & France. I’m looking for a fuel sender unit now. I’ve found one using the part number but it’s very expensive! Is there a way to buy a universal one going by the measurements? Or would it be called anything other than ‘fuel sender’ or ‘fuel sensor’?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yep! This looks to a match, and slightly cheaper than the one I found. Big thanks :) the tank was refurbed, picked up last Wk but came back from the company missing the drain plug! They said they can’t find it! Lesson learnt! Should’ve removed :(
If they baked the tank the braise melts which holds the drain plug in and it all usually falls out, have you still got the threaded boss in the tank
