Got a bit done today, really struggling with one of the door roll pins....
Managed to get the drivers door off and stripped, got the passenger door glass out but it is fighting to stay on. @DaveL485 some shots of the rust....
Try again tomorrow on the door pins, any advice would be very welcome!
This age of Renault just rots for fun I swear, you have a good few bits to put right there! See my 21 thread for the products I've been using for my fundamental rust problems, Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80, Bonda primer and loads of elbow grease are the faves!
You need to take the weight off the door, get a jack under and lift just enough so you take the weight but don't force it the other way. Loads of wd or easi out and give it some with the punch and hammer. Shouldn't be too bad once weight is off.
Rot doesn’t look too bad, nothing out of the ordinary.....they’re thirty plus years old and had a good percentage of that time in our damp shitty climate with salt lobbed on the roads for 5 months of the year.
Plenty of threads on here covering the 5 problem areas, it’ll be done in a shake of lambs tail!
Thanks guys.....I'll keep you all posted. I took the dashboard out yesterday, the thing has obviously been out before, there are broken clips and the whole thing has been glued back together! gonna need a replacement!! any ideas?
Went out there this morning in full attack mode - still didn't get the bloody door off!! ordered a new pin punch set so will try that tomorrow! I've soaked the pin in WD40! I didn't let it get me down though.....I continued with the endless stripping of looms, plastic clips, sound proofing, pedals, master cylinder and the list goes on, pics below!
Still tagging everything!
Hopefully get that bloody door off and the fuel tank and lines out...
Now you’ve got the arch off, you should have better access to the hinge from the arch gap, and with a fine punch and hammer, you should be able to get it moving..?
Did you take the weight off the door by jacking the door up slightly? If you still struggle you could also try having someone taking the door by the bottom corner and lifting up and letting go repeatedly to sort of wiggle while you repeatedly hit it. Once it starts moving the lube will get in and make it easy.

Today seemed like hard work, got the rear calipers and handbrake off, fuel tanks off, and the brake and fuel lines along with anything else under the car. I'm absolutely knackered!! Note to self, if I ever do this again, use all the fuel in the tank first!!
This has been bypassed - not sure what it function is - in know it is something to do with the rear brakes.
Took a leaf out of @Big Steve - Raider 's book and kept the brake and fuel lines as close to their shape on the car as possible. Thanks Steve!!
Looking good under there now...soon be time for its bath!!
Thanks for reading...please post any comments, tips
Thanks @andybond the encouragement goes a long way!!! @DaveL485 and @Big Steve - Raider did warn me of the mammoth task of just stripping the car! This forum is a big help!!
So, got the garage insulated and boarded out yesterday and new lights installed, much brighter, warmer and drier in there now!
Got the front of the car up on stands and removed the front calipers and discs, then pulled the remaining brake pipes through.
Is it me, or are the two front discs different types. The one above was siliconed in place!!
Then removed the fuel pressure regulator and the remaining few fuel lines....
We then set about removing every last plastic plug, and all brackets from the engine bay. We also removed the bonnet catch and washer jets, ended up destroying the jets trying to get them out as they were really brittle.
All but ready for the dipping process, we have removed everything other than the obvious.....the windscreen and that bloody door!!!! Can I remove the windscreen myself, or am i best to get someone in?
Looks like the disc retaining bolts have sheared off in the hub, not worth drilling them out, you can get new ones for very little money when you come to re-assemble the car
