Megane R26 aircon delete.

Hi guys,

Got myself an R26 again and the aircon is dead. Switch it on and off and no revs dipping and no cold air.

It’s used as a mild track day car and considering getting the aircon removed for the pms pulley. Question: is it worth it? Bhp gains? Quicker revs?

I don’t think there any many ( any ? ) gains unless the system is on , and working

When the A/C is not on, the pump flywheel is just spinning, so it's not exactly sapping energy.

My R26's AC is a little bit patchy at best. New Condensor, pipes and seals fitted and still the gas seems to escape every couple of years..

Just a case of re-gas with some UV dye and see if you can find the leak??

There is a bad bearing/pulley clutch noise coming from the area too occasionally. Been told that it is the aircon pump hence the thought of stripping it and getting 100bhp extra

and still the gas seems to escape every couple of years..

This isn't abnormal and you should have a system gas and a new drier fitted as a maintenance item every 3 years (apparently, according to my AC man)

After a struggle, managed to keep the aircon, on my 250engine Meglio. Its very tight, and had to move rad forward around 20mm, but in the warmer weather, and on track, for me, its well worth it.I do not care if it takes 10hp from the car, with my bad driving, you wouldn't notice. After 6 laps, on a hot day, I have got out the car shivering with the cold!.( Idiot!.)

That was a waste of time. Halfords guy couldn’t find the low charge point. Then read some terms that they aren’t covered to look under the car.

yeah guys who installed are going to change it free of charge.

Also had the aircon pressure tested from a proper plate. It lost all pressure inserted in like 30 mins. Safe to say there is a leak somewhere but the guy couldn’t find or hear it anywhere.

If you find a proper AC place they will put dye in to trace a leak.
