21 Turbo R21 Turbo QUADRA RHD Braking Problems

Hi all, i didn't post for a long, but am kinda busy, mounting my house.

Don't know if you will recognize me, but am a French guy.
Am the owner of former Malcolm Bailey's R21 Turbo Quadra RHD.

And for few months, am on trouble with brakes on this car...

In fact, no more assistance, the pedal is veeeeery hard to push.

Tried to change pump (cause it made fuses blow up)... So has been changed.
After that, changed pressure switch (bought one new).

And nothing changed, still hard.

So, for me, i'm trying my best to find few parts, but in France, it's impossible, and I really want to fix it.

So, if you can try to help me find those References, could be good :
- 7701203200 (Master cylinder). Just in case it could come from here...
- 7701203201 (Bloc electrovanne)
- 7701202800 (accumulator)

For the rest, i can find equivalent.

Thanks in advance, and take care, all

Julien

Not much pictures nowadays... she's covered with dust... and I do my maximum to make her drive again. Hopefully, the engine is still running like new... But for the rest. Will tell you asap

Hi, Dave, in fact, one of my colleague in Alpine's plant found a compensator for me, corresponding to the refs we found... but what was not my surprise yesterday evening, when I wanted to renew it. It's not exactly the same system I have (to be sincere, not the same at all...).

Seems I have a retarder for pressure, plus a simple regulator, with one entry and one exit, and a rusted cube, with one entry, and an exit for the left side, and another one for the right side... I'm not aware about this system.

Can someone be wise to take a picture for me, from the rear braking system of a Quadra ????

I'll send my pictures in a few.

Thanks again, even if it's not finished yet, I won't leave it like that ;)

Regards
Julien

So, understood it works like that :
Retarder (avoid high pressure), ----- regulator (one entry, one exit) ------ dispatcher -----------left and right (two exits).

Weird, but I should have liquid at calipers... here, not, and when I see condition (rusts)... Will renew all possible, to be sure.

Thanks for your help (again)

You wont get fluid at the rear without the compensator open (suspension compressed).

On my own car I have removed all of that at the back and will just run a manual bias adjuster and T-split.

Big steve, be sure I love this car enough to invest what I can... at least, she's sleeping with her sisters in the garage since....

But, indeed, this car gives me headaches, sometimes ;)

But the thing which makes me think she deserves it, is every time I turn the key to make the Engine turn, it runs like new... a sign she lives being there too (I know, this can look dumb, to imagine it...)

But as Queen used to sing.... I'm in love with my car(s) :dance.gif:

In the worst case you could always convert it back to a servo and remove the entire ABS setup - I am doing this with mine. The OE integrated master cylinder wont shift enough fluid for 16 pistons in the calipers i'll use instead of the standard 4.

Hi Dave, and all which are following my "adventures" (ys, will call it like that...), a friend of mine, who was working as a mechanical, think he found my problem... I will warn you but normally, it could come directly from the new pump.
It could be block in "lock mode". He told me to try to remove the big screw, to test it.

Will warn you ;)

Hi my fellow followers (at least here...)

I'm still on the ABS... Found that the new abs pump received didn't make fluid enter it, so bought a new one... and the new one was dead, so send it back...

Am searching for a new ABS Pump now, and did send mine for restoration in Romania.

Fingers crossed, maybe the quadra will take road again before end of 2022 !!! :D

Hi all... finally news from this beauty... Good and also bad news...
It's arrived a week ago in NL, cause à close friend of mine knows exactly what to do to repair it.

It arrived without any trouble, and it was the first road taken (on a trailer) since two years.

The braking system is on its way, and my friend managed to rule 50% of it !! So, that's good news.

BUT (yep, there is a but in my sentence).... we discovered very big rust problems on it !!! (i was waiting for troubles, but maybe not that far...).
- Side skirts are rusted a lot (maybe like rotten fruit...)
- The two back arms are rusty (triangles)
- the metal part maintaining the back bridge is rusty (am afraid it will be complicated to solve)
- Behind the dashboard is rusty also...

In real, it begins to be rusty in dangerous parts !!!
Am seeking first for a simple R21 in three parts, to recover side skirts, and part behind the dashboard, and will try to operate a complete restoration.

I will post a video from under the car when I'll be able.
Cause I really want to save it (for me, it's Malcolm's Legacy, so....)

If anyone has good advice for me, I'll appreciate.

Keep the faith, and take care ;)
Julien
