19 R19 Chamade Ph1 Prima - The New Daily

Last summer I spotted this thing driving about the local area, saw it a good few times over the course of a couple of weeks.
Eventually I saw it parked up and decided I would put a note on th window saying if it came up for sale I'd be interested in buying it. I didn't think much more of it and off I went.
Couple of days later I get a phone call from the owner saying they wanted to sell, I went and viewed it had a chat and in the end walked away from it as it was too dear for me at the time. Again off I went and didn't think much more of it.

About 4 months or so pass and I get a phone call again, owner saying if i was interested they would accept my previous offer.
Mid December at the time and barely had the offer I'd previously made.
Anyway went back down had a chat and eventually drove away in a 2 owner 48k bog standard, bare minimum POV spec 19. All for a measley sum of money. It's currently still mot'd untill June.

The day after I got it I went out and had a good scout about the car.

On first inspection it had two ropey tyres, a knackered track rod end, a dodgy fitting drivers door, and to be honest that's about it.
Sills are all solid, arches have had some sort of work in the past but Nothing major. Front wings are in reasonable condition aswell with just minimal rust beginning to show.
Pretty chuffed with it at that point although at that point I don't really know what I was going to do with it or why I wanted it so much. HAH!

So i messed about with it for a couple of days, fitted a steering wheel I had lying around, clio 16v gear knob, tryed to get 16v clocks to work in the dash but gave up trying to get the rev counter to work and decided clocks from a 19 RT or similar would be easier.

That's how the car sat until About march when my mate was struggling to sell a set of 17" TD 1.2's, so those came to me for very cheap and got put on the 19.

And again it sat like that until a couple of weeks ago, I've been finishing working on the clio for the time being getting it ready for an mot. Hopefully to put some miles on it over the summer.
And decided that to free up some funds I would sell the current daily corsa b and start using the 19.

So I bought some bits,

Track rods, ball joints and a cheeky set of 35mm lowering springs. Total eBay cost of about £65

Last Tuesday I cracked on, Fitted the new springs, new track rods, adjusted the torsion bar, adjusted the rear drums and handbrake.
The track rod was mince.

There's a handy cut out in the sill for the torsion bar

I then insured it and took it out for a wee blast, big wheels and silly big tyres meant it was scrubbing on the rear.
They are not ideal at all for the car but they are better than steelies and it's fine and comfy for a daily. I may swap the tyres for smaller ones at some point. Or the wheels hah

Monday night I put the rear of the car back up again about 15mm and that's stopped the scrubbing.
Yesterday aswell as getting the corsa ready for sale I did a couple of wee bits just to make the car usable as a daily drive,
New window wipers, modern stereo wiring soldiered in, and a new heater control panel (clio 16v) as the original had a broken knob.

Drove it to work today no problem, needs front pads but I picked them up from euros on the way home with the discount for a tenner. Happy days.
Was going to fit them but washed it instead and polished the bonnet and wings haha
I'll do the pads tomorrow.
Couple of photos of when out and about today, I'll post up a couple of it once I finish polishing it.

Are you sure you are from Scotland? It looks sunny in those pics.

Either way, car looks about a million times better now that when you got it! Any more plans for it ?

Haha. I'm fairly sure, if I go to England nobody knows what I'm saying 🤷🏽‍♀️

Really though its been scorching up here for about two weeks, long may it last.

There are tempting ideas, fitting a B18ft was the first one. Fitting an f4r maybe turbo was another but I like the Volvo idea better.
But for the time being it's primary role is to drive daily so I have some more space/money to get the clio on the road and maybe get some bits for the 5.

It's also possible that in a couple of months I may be tired of the basic-ness of it and decide to sell it on in favour of a kangoo van which I've fancied for a while, i miss having a van

I have now done 100+ miles in this over the last week. Corsa went on Wednesday night so this has been in full service since and I have to say it's great, So comfy.

The mrs took it out to the shops on sat and said she had someone shouting "cool car" at her at the traffic lights so that's a win. Haha
With those wheels on it it felt like driving a truck, hard work on the arms

Put the feelers out on Facebook this morning looking for some wheels, I need another set and I got a reply from a guy with some speedline vega's which is good as I've been looking for a set to put on my clio.

Also though, a guy I've bought/sold some bits to in the past sent me a picture saying he had some wheels
IMG_1844.webp

I thought at first they were TD 1.2's like I have but 15"
I said to him to send me another photo later and depending i might pick them up on route home.

Not exactly the same, but bloody close!
And the style and colour I wanted to put on the 5 so that pretty much sold them.

They are quite 'domed' which I liked aswell.
So how much do you want for them?

£40 - Ace! I'll get them on the way home.

IMG_1841.webp

Took the wheels off the clio to then put on the 19, and stuck these new ones here temporarily. Tyres needed!

I like the look of the 19 on the smaller wheels,
IMG_1842.webp

That's a shit photo but I took it for a quick run around the town before tea and it's generally just a bit nicer to drive, it's a bit easier to steer and it's not to harsh a ride still. No scrubbing what so ever on the smaller wheels which was the initial reason for changing them before MOT tomorrow morning at 8am.
And it looks quite cool I think, fresh brake pads on the front yesterday, stops much better now.
I finished polishing the car (almost) yesterday evening, polished all the glass, and got some crappy marks out of the paint with some compound.

Feeling pretty confident about the mot tomorrow, if anything with all these new regs. In place I might get failed on an oily engine 🤔 It does/has leaked and is mucky.
But the mot place is friendly, so we will see.

Roll on tomorrow and the ritualistic 2x bakers pies in the square killing an hour while it's in haha 🤞🏾

love this. with the 17s on it has a definate whiff of btcc touring car. them other pro race looking wheels look like they could be pro race 1s. tidy wheel like a 1.2 but with more space for big brakes. give me a nudge if they need a home. Out of interest is it a 1.2 or 1.4? if its the 1.4 i might have a home for the engine if you end up swapping it out

I think the wheels are just aftermarket jobbies, I saw a sticker in the wheel well that said majicwheels.com I think or something like that, to be fair I didn't look over them for identifying marks. Just wiped them down and stuck them on. I will have a look when they come off though, gonna have a scout about for some tyres

Good news first thing this morning, Passed its mot with only an advisory for perished brake flexis' on the front. I did noatice that when I put the pads on the front the other day.

I did get "you should keep it standard, I've not seen one of those since I served my time". I fully understand this view point, but the car doesant interest me at all standard. Hah but the tester was reassured that I've still got the standard bits

@Adey its a 1.4 8v energy series engine, on a Webber with manual choke. If it does come out your welcome to it.

So for the time being I've done what I wanted to really, moved this into daily service and gained some driveway space, this means I can hopefully get an mot put on the clio 16v so I can hoon about a bit, near enough two years exactly since I've driven that. Then in turn if that's running reasonably well for the evening/weekend blasts I can get some work done on the 5 aswell. Here's hoping anyway..

Fresh MOT photo,

its great that you've bought it and its in regular use, but I cannot find any love for that front end, or the colour of the thing - sorry hahahaha
