R19 16v rough idle and stalling during warmup

Hi!

Just got my hands on a R19 16v that hasn´t been running for 3 years. It starts fine but idles a bit rough (jumps beetween ~900-950 rpm) and during warmup i´t stalls without warning (it runs fine then just dies). After stalling I just have to start it up again and it runs fine, then it stalls again. I´t does this untill enginge is warmed up, then it runs fine but still with rough idle. The P.O. tried to fix the car but gave up. Things that he switched for new ones is: Cat, O2 sensor. TPS, CTS. Cables, Plugs, distributor cap, rotor, oil+ filter.

He also changed one injector but wasn´t careful when he put the fuel rail back so the plastic tip on 2 of the injectors broke. But that should only affect general running (could be the idle issue) but it shouldn´t be the stalling issue.

So question is: Where should I start? Vaccum issue? Fuel issue? Ignition? Something else?

/Thanks!

even with 10 year old + fuel I have yet to see it not actually run a car.

unplug the cts and ait and see if it will run without stalling, if not then it may be the tps, they default to 50% throttle if they are unplugged, badly set up or badly damaged.

But tbh I'd check the wiring and the relays.

You never really gave any specific details on the problem or the checks you have performed etc

Should have seen the alpine turbo which had been stood still for 10 years. Fuel clogged up everything. It turned to a jelly sort of liquid and destroyed the pump and blocked the pipes.

Crap fuel does not help running of the vehicle as well. I put dodgy tesco petrol in the car once due to only petrol station open at the time and it was spluttering about everywhere. put BP in and after a few refills the car was back to normal.

yeah so I hear but having dealt with THOUSANDS of cars, vans and trucks, some where i have had to cut trees etc down to get them out they have all started on the old fuel. Some will indeed run shit until fresh stuffs in but it will still run.

Just last week started a 1.6 laser capri that had stood for abotu 8 years, poured petrol down the carb a few times then it ran on its own shitty smokey fuel, poured fresh stuff in and the smoke cleared up and it ran much better.

I was most surprised that the VV carb actually works fine!

So as my first statement has he changed the fuel. His car is running, which I agree the car will run on crap fuel, but wont run well, hence idle is rough and stalls.

oh a debate, if you actually read the post you would have read that it RUNS OK WHEN WARMED UP DONT THINK ITS FUEL, blockage maybe?

its not runnin fine then:roll:

Ok then. It runs fine when i drive but idle is bad.

I have only had the car for 4 days and spent about 4 hours in the garage with it yet so I haven´t "started" for real yet.

When it comes to fuel etc. the P.O. has been working on it since june, so fuel and everthing I listed above is new since then.

Changed the injectors today. Now it idles fine. But when driving aroud the parking lot outside my garage it stalled. But this time it stalled when i drove over a small bump so it gave me something to look for. The I turned out of time and daylight so I havn´t looked it up yet.

It´s probably some cable, connection or groudning that is bad. Hmmm, any ideas where to start . I feel like I have checked all connections, but I can´t have.

Let´s update.

I have now changed the coil, ECU, RPM -sensor, fuel filter and redone all engine groundings. The car runs very nice.............BUT! Then it stalls. It starts up right away again..........Then it stalls. Sometimes it can run for 20 min witout stalling and sometimes it stalls right away, so engine temperature doesn´t matter. Any ideas?
