So do the two circled (red) pipe ends originally reside together? Pipe on the left hangs down from the top of the rear diff

I assume this is a broken pipe. What is it for?!
 
Prodably yes, and I guess the pipe on the left goes to the top of the rear diff? If so then its only a breather pipe

You might be right there actually Rabson. Been a while since I visited the underside of a Quaddie lol.

Either way its a vent/breather pipe.
