Problems with Front Radiator fans

shinji

New Member
My Ph1 vee just passed its annual MOT inspection in HK (and I should really be grateful for that already).....

However, my mechanic has informed me that the front radiator fans are not working as efficiently as they should. He was reporting that the fans are loose on the motor spindle like when the fan is static he can see that there is a bit of play with fan moving along the spindle axis.

Looking at the parts diagram below, does number 6 and 7 come with the motor OR does it come with number 5?

If I could squeeze in just 2 more questions, 1) price and 2) whether these fans are also used on normal Clios.

Thanks a lot you all!

Hi Shinji. Not a part of the car I've pulled apart yet but looking at that diagram id say with a good level of certainty that the motor is part of numbers 6&7.

Thanks for you reply Ben!

I don't know whether my mechanic is pulling my leg or something cos I don't think fans usually fail this soon

Never heard of such a failure. Tell him to put plain 12V on the motors (caution: high current!). This will tell you instantly whether they are working efficiently enough or not.

I'm not sure if the motors are available. But they are not standard Clio parts. It's rather from a Laguna II like the rest of the powertrain.

Thanks hualpa_jo!

What to look for after directly powering from 12V besides it spins or not?

Thanks in advance and the parts tip!

Well, if they really are loose as your mechanic says, whey won't spin at all.

There is even an easier test: Just switch on the aircon. Then they will run at 25% Power (6V) but that's enough. If both are turning and you can feel a steady flow of air (remove bonnet tray) they are ok.

Thanks again hualpa_jo :salut:

The last time I drove the car last Thursday I can hear the front fans coming on. Will try taking out the bonnet tray this weekend and have a feel heheh

I got quoted £295 per fan excluding delivery to HK and at this price made me choke a little :help:

Is there an equivalent part number of the Laguna II or Peugeot 406 V6s?

Many thanks in advance :salut:
