Private Track Day at Donington Park (Full GP Circuit) - 29th March 2021

Short notice, but if you fancy a run up to Donington Park and having a go around their full GP circuit then do post up your interest.

Below is an excerpt of the email I received today from Greg of Contemporary Classics:
"Contemporary Classics along with our partners at Axiom Brands and Lamborghini Pangbourne are running a private track day at Donington on March 29th.

I thought it could be the perfect opportunity to get some V6’s together so wanted to extend an open invitation to yourself and the rest of the v6clio.net fraternity.

It is a unsilenced open pit format however we are keeping numbers to a minimum to ensure the track doesn’t get too busy.

Attached is a flyer for the day. We have been asking £1,000 per 2 cars/4 drivers however what I wanted to propose was if you let me know how many owners/cars could be interested I will put together a special price for you all (ideally around £250-300 per car).

Please let me know your thoughts. If for whatever reason the day cannot go ahead the cost will be fully refundable.
"

In brief:
- Open Pit Lane with no noise limits
- Instructors available
- Breakfast and lunch provided

Contrary to what is stated in the attached flyer. we have been offered the package at £250-£300 per car if we manage to get "enough" cars. I am waiting on more info.

Thought this just might be a way to ease the boredom of the last 12 months... :race:

Non essential travel might be an issue?
Indeed it might. To this end I received the following update from Greg Evans today:

"Ideally 2-3 weeks prior to the event to confirm numbers. It is easier for us to add attendees rather than remove people.

Typically, the circuit will give us confirmation 2 weeks prior to the event as to whether they will be in a position to host us and the day can go ahead. That said, we are in constant communications with the circuit and as of now given the current government guidance in place they still feel confident the day will be able to go happen a the end of March
."

If you haven't seen it already, there is a link in the PDF attached to the first post with a link to the last event organised by the same group, filmed by YouTube influencer Schmee150 (granted some may not like his style).

As such, if there is any interest we need to confirm numbers by Sunday, 14th March, at the latest. Therefore, if you are interested then do post up below, or drop me a PM.

NOTE: Unlike Silverstone Classic, this is not an event where we attend as a club. Instead, it is an open invitation to attend as individuals, albeit as owners of Clio V6s, but you may choose to bring any car you wish.

Hi Dulan, I'd be interested in this (at c.£250), subject to the car coming back from Scott's - can I confirm closer to the date?

Edited to add that I'm not optimistic that this will go ahead but it's refundable or it'll be reorganised, so doesn't bother me!

We will still be locked down so a no from here [smilie=icon_eek.gif] [smilie=icon_cry.gif]
That is a shame Simon. May be the event gets postponed, and if that happens the revised date may be after lockdown in Scotland is lifted. Everything is rather fluid at the moment.

Good stuff Oli - noted. Would Matt be interested as well?

Of course, if the event doesn't go ahead then a full refund will be issued. If you can confirm on or before 14th March that will be good.

I'm not sure, I'll ask him. Understood, I'll do my best to!

UPDATE received today...

"As of 29th March, outdoor sporting facilities will be allowed to open. As such, we continue to feel confident that the day will be able to go ahead whilst maintaining necessary social distancing measures and will of course be fully refunded if for whatever reason it does not happen.

I hope the announcement yesterday provides some confidence to anyone who may have been on the fence.

This is exactly the sort of opportunity that I’m hoping to use my Clubsport Ph1 for... but it won’t be available for another few months.

The Grandprix circuit is being used (with the hard hairpins), whereas I think the national circuit better suits the Vee.

Nevertheless, I don’t doubt that those who can attend will have a ball!

Interesting you should say that as I didn't particularly enjoy the national circuit in the V, the car isn't fast enough! Anglesey, however, was bloody fantastic so my limited track day experience in the car has given me a preference for tighter twistier tracks!

I can’t disagree with you comments regarding the National circuit. The hairpins in International guise are designed to slow things down by having x2 hard braking areas. It definitely favours superlights...

I think this is why Goodwood used in OrigineRS was great. Anglesey too. Bedford autodrome.
Basically, anything short & twisty with good run offs!

UPDATE received today...

"Just a quick one to say that due to unprecedented demand for the track day I will need to know in the next 48 hours if anyone would like to attend and if so how many. Apologies for the change in timelines its just a lot of people want to get out the house and do a track day!"

So, the track day is going ahead, and if you are interested in attending please let me know (via PM or this thread) by Saturday (6th) lunchtime at the latest.

I won't know when I have the car back before tomorrow lunchtime so I'm afraid I won't be able to commit! Next time!

Hi Dulan.

Would it be easy for you to find out from the organisers if it's possible to go to as a spectator on the day? Easier maybe for you to find out with being in contact with them already.

Would go up in the Vee but have zero interest in taking it on track. Fancy going up for a coffee and a look around though.

Thanks.

Sure, no problem - can you PM me your email address so that I can pass it on?

Might do the same, just to get out in the car - if allowed.

Do PM me your full name and email address and I will pass the details on - there should be no issue to attend as a spectator and take your Vee.

Also, I have just been informed that someone had pulled out so if anyone is interested £500 + VAT will get you that place, and all the other perks as mentioned above, including breakfast and lunch, instruction, open pit lane and no noise limit. PM me your full name and email address if interested.
