Is there a market for oil spray jets over there then?

I could havest a load from a bunch of engines I have scattered around and send them over

do you have any volvo lump over there mate..as the 1.7 turbo lump should be a straight swap and will run 200bhp..

No Volvo lumps, not of this block at least. I think the smallest engine Volvo sold over here in recent years was the 2.3.

This engine is an oddment anyway- it already has the 1.7 Turbo cylinder head from the factory, dished pistons (as seen in pics) but is 2.0 instead of 1.7.

So, in theory it would turbocharge well with the addition of a replacement manifold set off a 1.7T, and probably a megasquirt

I'm not looking for crazy power just yet, plus the CR is going to be a bit high to run big boost here as the fuel is so dire.

Probably, a few people were after them for a couple rebuilds over here on the Yahoo! groups...

Small update. Since lifted the valves out of the new head, got them soaking in the acid dip to clean the cack off.

Very tempted by Cat Cams sports camshaft.... but it costs too much for my pocket right now, especially with the exchange rate sucking so badly

Yep that's the spring compressor we all know and love (or is it hate..?)

Good luck with bringing parts indoors, I find a cylinder head stripped down in the kitchen and engine parts in the shower is always a winner :)

Hey, that spring compressor gave me good results. Certainly better than just bashing the retainers down with a mallet and socket like I did for the scrap head lol

Before too long I'll be having the whole car inside

Bit like my uncle who rebuilt a Jaguar V12 engine in his loft when he was a teenager without actually thinking how to get the damned thing out of there. I think he dismantled it in the end :D
Not quite what I'm planning for but a shed or something would be nice to work in.

House has central air so it's a bit less damp that outside, less likely to make the metal rust. I'm already dreading opening the block up again, despite having lathered the innards with white grease a few months back...

any progress on this one phil, i want to see more of it

also nice work on the bagdes, that must have took a steady hand

No progress yet, waiting on the weather to cool down a bit so I can work on it- plus I need to get a cambelt tensioner for it... and pull the gearbox off so I can lift the crank out and redo the main bearings. That and measure and get some shims to do the tappets.

It's basically just sitting on the driveway right now. The badges don't look that great close up but they're better than they were. It'd been sat up in one place so long the dampers had drained- I went to bounce the back of the car the other day and it just kept bouncing, gurgled a little and then stopped... works fine now I've bounced it a bit lol

I'll put an update once I get round to doing something else- yesterday evening was spent attempting to fix the carburettor on one of the neighbours' kids quad bikes, then ended up getting bitten to death by mosquitoes.

I want to try get the dash back on this weekend, but I fear the wife has other ideas for my time...

dampers not damping are common even new ones on daily drivers, bounce most cars and theres nothing then they start working

Yeah, it's just the way they work- it'd not been touched nor moved in over three months. Personally I'm surprised they work at all after all this time :D

Project on hold right now. Mostly due to shortness of cash money and waiting on a reply for the correct thickness shims to redo the camshaft.

Next "fun" project will be to do the front right wheel bearing. Probably easiest to find a local workshop with a press and get them to put the new one in right.

I'm thinking about holding off on doing the main bearings for now as taking the gearbox off to do that is going to be a pain in the ass. Either that or I'll just drop the hubs off when I have to do the wheel bearing and drop the gearbox off then.

There's too many pipes in the way. A four-cylinder engine should not (and does not!) need this many pipes and wires to operate.....

Update

Got happy with the buffing wheel because that didn't cost anything. Skint right now so piston rings, valve shims and belt idlers are on the back burner :(
