Phase 2 ~345 Illiad 22k miles £15k

On eBay, it's a repaired Cat D but looks good, with low miles.

It does seem expensive though, as figuring in a full cam-belt service, storage bin and probably tyres you heading up to £18k, and it's still a Cat D.

This car is back on eBay again at auction starting at £12,000. What is the current value of this car, considering it is a cat D ?

Also repair was carried out by owner himself, so should that also reflect on price, with previous comments suggesting that recommissioning ie timing belt, tyres eye etc being upward of £3k ?

I recall in 2010 Steve (4900gill) was selling loads of spare panels, the ones he didn't use on the rebuild. He was very polite.

Given what a few repaired Ph1 Cat D cars have gone for in the past year or so, my feeling is that £12k to £15k is just about top whack if it was up together and needing nothing doing. But given that it needs repairs to the front bumper and tailgate, paint, new luggage box and a full service / recommission, then it has to be £6k or so less than that. And that's assuming that the repairs that have been done have been completed properly, with all clearances and finish as per factory.

I don't think money can be made out of repairing Cat D cars yet...maybe one day.

Hi James, slightly confused you say "the ones he didn't use" so are the cat D ones on this car original do you think or not ?

Mark if you can get that car for £6k (which he wouldn't sell for) it's worth breaking for that, looking at the other items in his eBay for sale list, I think the guy is used to doing that.

I think that's the problem the seller faces....it's probably only worth £6k - £7k with all the work it needs, and that is probably little more that he paid for it as salvage. There seems to be so much stigma attached to Cat D repaired Vees, and plenty of good original cars on the market, that finding someone to buy a Cat D at all could be quite difficult.

I suppose the question is, what would a Cat D repaired Ph2 with no faults and 22k miles be worth? I can't see it being more than £14k on a very good day.

I could be bought as a fun track day car, or a home restoration by someone who has the skills to do all the work themselves so it won't cost so much beyond a lot of labour. That's really where the classic car market is at, where a sporting Mk1 Escort costs £20k to buy as a project, £50k as a cheque-book restoration and at the end it's worth £45k. E Types and Healeys make even less economic sense!

The trouble with it being a track day car, again is the initial costs are still upwards (as you say) of £3k because if anything you'd want the engine more than fully reconditioned / commissioned as you'll want to cane it around the track, that's not forget any laser and or alignment issues you may encounter due to the original crash.

There's no denying some money needs to be spent, but I'd say it's worth the asking price of 12k in its current state. If it were straight and ready to drive it would be a 18k car.

As your rightly say Mark, the problem is finding a buyer.

Be 18k car even as cat D Duncan if we're fully recommissioned ? I don't know many that would pay £18,000 k for repaired cat d ?

Probably less than the cost to buy it and recommission it.

Everyone will feel differently about this and really this will be completely down to condition. If I were valuing it for insurance purposes, I would suggest if its properly tidy, around 5-10% below market value of an equivalent straight car.

It's been back on sale for a while now, and still no takers at £18k.

Time does give a renewed perspective, and with 22k miles this car is starting to look attractive, even needing a full service, a new 'boot' box and a fair bit of tlc.

Duncan's new analysis has revealed that this car was the 8th from last one made. I wonder if that makes up for the Cat D?!

Anybody seen photos of the car in it's crashed condition? All the Cat D cars I've seen so far are very superficial / cosmetic damage, maybe needing a couple of panels.

From a country point of view is would disappear. The governments don't have any reciprocal arrangements in the registration or insurance history of a car that I know of. I have seen cars re-imported to the UK, under a different ID, and of course, the history is lost then as well.

However, the Clio V6 has an excellent register on V6 Clio.net, and now the UK plaque is being tied together with the VIN and the original plaque number, there is no hiding place for a given car.
