PC Based XR25 USB Cables

Guys, can anyone tell me where to get info about the cable, such as pin assignments etc.?
Since most if not all of the people seem to be using a USB cable with FT232 chip, I'm pretty sure its also possible to use a plain and simple RS232 serial cable combined with a MAX232 level converter. I happen to own a laptop that still has a serial port, so this would be easier for me. But I couldnt find any info about the actual cable on Google...

Hi Chet,

To begin with, thanks for this superb initiative. I searched a couple of years ago for an affordable solution, but without success.

Before I order your DIY kit I tried to install the compatible software.

After the setup installed successfully the fonts and resources, the setup stopped with an error message:
“Downloading of the setup files failed. Check your network connection or contact your system administrator or your network service provider.”

I get the options to select OK or Details.
When I select OK setup terminates.

When I select ‘Details’ I get an error report.
The core message of this error report is:

The following errors occurred during downloading.
* [3-3-2012 18:52:28]
System.Deployment.Application.DeploymentDownloadException (Unknown subtype)
System.Deployment.Application.ApplicationActivator.ActivateDeploymentWorker(Object state)

http://renault-clip/XR25_D2XXUnit_NET/XR25_PC1_183.application
System.Net.WebException
- Not possible to convert external name: 'renault-clip'

(This is not the complete error message and it is translated to English. If you need the complete error report, please let me know)

Is there something wrong with my download or with my internet connection?
Please, what can I do to install this final part?

Thanks

chet, It´s been a long time and my cable didn't arrived. Do you have any solution for me ? Could you send me another cable with different postal service ?
regards

Yes, it should work. The problem is the software is very fussy about what cable it uses and only recognises FTDI usb cables

I've seen this before, can't remember who had the issue now but i think it was a problem with trying to install on XP home edition, is that what you're using?

would this cable work with twingo 1 c3g engine, magneti marelli ecu?

I believe the cable should work but i'm not sure if the model is supported by the software. I've already had reports of one model not being supported

I could send a new cable using registered post, i could probably offer you a discount on the replacement cable.

Thank you, I got it. Will try soon :)

Great! That was nice and quick (the postage anyway ;))

It seems it does not work in Clio Mk1 Ph3 (D7F730, 557K) due to different pinouts. I will try the cable in my Williams this weekend.
Chet is really helpful!

New price for complete cable?

Hi there, I consider buying a XR25PC USB Cable. Has the price gone to 75.00 GBP? :(
Also please inform me on availability. Many thanks

Hi, I want one of these, but I want to be sure if it includes International shipping to Argentina.

Thanks!.

Yes it includes standard shipping which is not recorded, recorded postage is £3 extra and highly recommended. (we have had a case of a cable going missing in the post)

Sourcing the correct connector has proven to be a pain so i raised the price to deter people from ordering unless they really really wanted one.

Hello,
I would like to ask, which cable to use? 3,3V - TTL-232R-3V3 or 5V TTL-232R-5V? ( http://www.ftdichip.com/Products/Cables/USBTTLSerial.htm )
Thanks.

Both will work fine as the 3.3V uses 5V power and has 5V tolerant inputs

Understood but don't you deter this way also people really wanting ...two?:)

Anyway, your help is highly appreciated. I will buy two 'XR25PC Adapter DIY' and make them on my own, with a FTDI cable and a OBD-II to Renault 12 Pin Adapter like you suggest. By the way, you don't use the LED when assembling the PCB and constructing the cable?
Would like also to ask the final price including 'Registered Post Upgrade' for Greece for two pieces.

Many thanks!

Two kits with the post upgrade would be 12+12+3=£27

You can use the LED if you want, i just don't when making the full cables as its awkward to mount them.

I need to check but i think i may have to order some PCB's

XR25 USB cable

Hi Chet, I am a Clio 16v owner, and I am very interested in this item. Few days ago, i have recived an USB-TTL converter with an FT232 chip, now i am trying to reproduce your circuit...(sorry but my patience don't let me wait for order you a circuit and wait until it arrives...) I have study some of electronic thems, and i understund what is the mean of the circuit that you have make.

I have see what type of signals is in the pin 9 of diagnostic connector. Is horrible!!jaja! And then i supose this little circuit is made for repair this horrible signal no?

So seeing this, i make a circuit with the same components as your circuit, and after a lot of test, i have a conversor of horrible signal, to an rs232 protocol signal. Then I connect this signal to de rx of my USB-TTL conversor and then run the xr25 program. In the little window tha shows the usb hardware shows also data recieved, and this parameter is 56 bytes. The program

I have tested this in a terminal, and the terminal shows a lot of <0>, that I think it s wrong information...
All this test have been made with a protoboard, so i don´t know if there is a problem with it....

But I used another component more than you, becouse with the transistor only, the signal was inverted so i put on a inversor. Also, you can help me by explaining something about the circuit?
I will understand if you dont want to help me in this case, but if for you there is no problem, can i see the diagram of the circuit?

Thanks a lot and sorry if I upset....
Also sorry for my bad english!! (im spanish!)

Well the signal that i have with the board conected is the same as yours, also the signal that i got is the ecus one inverted. But now seeing the diagram i will improve it in a pcb board to test it. Thanks a lot!

Hi, please reply as I have sent private messages asking about the shipping status of my order. Thanks.

Hello there, I believe Chet T16 is currently in the middle of his exams so I imagine he might not have much time to get online but I shall try contact him myself and keep you posted
