I'm one of the guilty one's with not much to say and went through a phase of not visiting the forum much, but to lose such a breadth of knowledge would be a disservice to all the hard work that's been put in over the years. Facebook is a first point of contact for many, but the forum should be the priority.
It must be like herding cats a lot of the time, but I hope you don't believe your efforts aren't appreciated.

Oh I certainly feel appreciated for stuff I’ve done over the years. I kicked and screamed when a club was suggested by everyone, but I got on with it with full gusto.

My guess is an outcome may be that the forum will certainly remain with all it’s data, but being a “club” may be a thing of the past. A small Forum Membership fee to gain full access would be required (only to pay the bills).

I’m happy to keep this forum going. :salut:

I count myself as both a lurker and a luddite, but I hadn't realized we have a facebook presence.

The use of we hints that I feel that I belong to something and for a relatively tiny annual sum at that. In return I get to benefit from thousands of hours of investment made by passionate people, whether that's in establishing and running the forum, building and maintaining the register, the knowledge base, the events team, reading about people's builds, watching cars change ownership, seeing many getting fixed, being amazed by parts being manufactured and of course, learning about and sending work to the clever folk that keep these vehicles on the road. What I feel we have here is a community and I don't feel I get that sense from any facebook group I'm a member of, that said I'll lurk in both, each has their place.

I voted to keep both, however the offer to bring the forum into the TurboRenault community still stands, you would retain all archived data with full accessability to it and you can have your own subgroup for V6 specific stuff. Plus, you wouldnt have the costs to keep this running, and everyone would get free membership as we dont charge subs (and we dont have adverts either)

We just updated to the newest version of xenforo, we have a mobile web version AND an app in the app stores too (though I think the mobile web version is better than the app lol!)

Surely closing this place down is not an option with the vast amount of knowledge it contains? This forum is a special place for Vee lovers. I see the FB page as a nice addition. Most people are on FB every day, so it's easier but the forum is the go-to place for everything. Keep up the good work!

Fcuk off Dave! We’re a NaRenault community! ; )

(Nevertheless, you’re a top bloke!)

I’m rarely on these days...in fact I think I’ve used the car as many times as I’ve used the forum this year..but I’d still want it to stay and happy to contribute for the benefit of the knowledge and regional events.

Hi, All,

I've just voted - to leave as is. I like this forum and all the information that is there is a useful reference to me. I spend enough time on my computer / phone with e-mails, calls and SMS so don't do other Social Media to avoid ending up like my wife and the young lads at work - uncommunicative and often diving for a phone at the first sound of a beep! Losing the v6Clio.net forum could send me over the edge and make me have to do FaceBook - but I hope the need does not arise!

Simon

I’m certain the forum will continue. A few adjustments will be made.

I am not a FB fan.
I find the forum organised, active ,searchable and well run.
I am in other clubs that have both forums and FB pages.
I find their FB pages chaotic and unhelpful and full of stuff I don't want.

It seems to me that the people who post most on forums are those who will tear their cars apart and do their own repairs. While I am not part of the group I relish the info that these guys share with us all. Good for them.
I post mostly about events visited
The forum must not die.

Planning to change my user name to Kerr Mudgin

'tis but a small detail! :P

I shall retreat from whence I came then lol

As Duncan stated, FB has killed a lot of forums. FB is having a negative effect on so much of the online community because it occupies most of people's time when online, giving them less time to check forums etc. I probably spend 70% of my online time on FB, 20% on youtube, leaving 10% for emails and forums. FB and youtube are addictive by design, they have teams of people whose job it is to come up with new ways to ensure you spend your time on their platforms.

For me, the fact there was a forum to come to during the process of looking for and buying a car was infinitely more useful than going to a FB page and I was happy to pay my membership fee for this useful info and as a thank you. The fact that the forum can have libraries of data, easy to find was really great. FB is quite rubbish in this respect.

As a member of a number of car forums, the ones that seem to live through the FB all consuming monster seem to be the ones where there's either a lot of meets going on or a lot of projects being worked on requiring the forum for organising trips, technical questions, and buying and selling parts. The fact the V6 has become highly collectable probably doesn't help with the last two points as owners for the most part seem to want to keep them original.

I'm not keen on the shutting FB option, but making it very limited so people use the forum may be a good bet. However as I said above, I think lack of action on forums is simply due to FB consuming so much of people's time that they have less time than they used to to spend on forums, so it may not make any difference.

FB is also volatile, in years to come it might no longer be as popular as it is today.

I wonder how those of you who are avid users of social media sites, and Facebook in particular, feel about the recent events? As noted in this thread, and many a time in the past, it is no secret that I am not an avid fan of social media sites in general, and Facebook in particular..........

As someone who has worked on projects that deal with personal/sensitive data, such as those that need a security check (SC) clearance in advance of joining such projects, IMO it was only a matter of time before such a scandal came to light, but no way did I think that this would happen in the way that it did - quite honestly I am lost for words! [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

For those of you who are interested, listed below are some links to some of the material that I sent to my friends and associates, who I share such info with via email, about 2 months ago:

Interviews with the former President of Facebook: LINK & LINK
A more comprehensive interview with the former VP for User Growth, recorded at the Stanford School of Business
An even more in-depth account (from 2013) that explains how they managed to hook 1 billion users by 2011: How we put Facebook on the path to 1 billion users (okay the guy comes across as quite arrogant, but he did get there).

I am sure you would have known that a company such as Facebook cannot survive on a free-subscription model without having a means of sustaining itself, and the only way to do that is to advertise and/or harvest, and sell, the only real assets they have - the information it collects from its 'loyal users'!

Rant over..................

The Facebook PICTURES Group has been going very well, with just a little bit of chatter on some posts.

There are only a few basic rules on there.

Buying, selling or any form of advertising...... posts will be removed (and you with them).
Any posts containing a link to EBay or sites with goods for sale etc. Will be removed.
Any posts containing your business details Will be removed.

If the rule breaking gets out of hand on there, and too busy to moderate, we will revert back to it being an anything goes FB group. As a result there would be little point in having information in both places, so this forum would not be necessary.

No need to shut anything.
You could just dissasociate the Facebook group from the club and just leave it as a Facebook page for Clio V6 talk.

Then you can just focus on the forum - which is the only important thing.
