Megane Non start R26

In need of help. My R26 wouldn't start one day so I replaced the battery (garden all rosie for 3 weeks). Then the battery warning came on, turned car off at my parents and wouldn't start suspected alternator was dead. I've now replaced the alternator and the blooming thing won't start only a solitary click and sometimes brake fault or steering lock fault on dash. I've had a booster pack on the battery and charged it still nothing. Anyone had this problem before or even similar to this

Was ? Is ?

Really need to measure it just before cranking. It *should* be enough to start the crank.

If you try and jump the battery with jump leads will it start then ?

Ok , so that would imply the battery / crank voltage is fine.

This happened to my old car , just once.

I disconnected the battery , and reconnected it. Try that first.

With the "Brake Fault" coming on the dash , have you verified there is enough fluid in the resi ?

Yeah that's my thoughts it should start with over 13v even if the battery could somehow be dodgy as the system would still be receiving 13v.

I've taken the battery off and refitted it and it was still the same.

Yeah the fluid level is fine. I think the two faults may have been related to battery voltage as they didn't come on after the charger was put on it but thought I'd include them incase they could've been related.

In that case , I think you might need to start looking at the fuse under the bonnet. Has it been cleaned recently or been through any massive puddles ? I would take each one out , verify for corrosion / wetness and reseat one by one.

No it's not had either of them things happen. I took the top cover off just for a quick look and there doesn't seem to be any signs of a water ingress.

Probably not connected but when I jacket the car up water ran out the passenger front behind the front wheel.

also check the brake lights are working... I know it should start if either the clutch or brake pedal is depressed... BUT .. these have a habit of just being stupid....I have had 2 none starters just because the brake light switch has failed....it wouldnt read the clutch pedal as it got confused.... none start....

could also be a long list of stuff from faulty earth connections to body.. (put a jump lead between the negative battery terminal and the engine) ... and try..blown fuse, fault on key reader , fault on wiring...faulty starter..

I removed the brake light switch and had that pressed as I tried to start the car incase that had something to do with it but will check the lights actually work.
The negative terminal to the engine is already in my list for tomorrow as well.
Cheers for the help

Right guys, I tried the lead off the negative to the engine still the same.
Brake light switch working correctly.
Dissected the fuse box no signs of water ingress and all fuses ok.
I even tried another battery but still no difference.
I think I'm going to have to put it to Renault :dg:

Just out of curiosity, are you sure your battery voltage is above 13V without the engine running?

That seems really high, a typical good value would be around 12.5-12.7V.

Are you sure that the battery in your DMM is still good and the meter isn't producing a false positive?
