No wonder I hated this BMC filter

Hi will, can't believe our bad luck with these filters!

I've ordered up my new pipe work and should have it tomorrow! Wasn't cheap at £70 but its all in the details! Should be identical to matts when I get it fitted 8)

Cheers for the help Matt :approve:

Yes it is annoying isn't it :(, but on the plus side we should both notice a big difference to either sound, performance or even both once they are all back together properly :).

I didn't know where to get the bits from Kett as they came with mine. Thought they were pre fabricated by the previous owner of the BMC. Good we can get them though. :approve:

Yes, sorry that wasn't meant to be a criticism Matt.
Given BMC's are an excellent upgrade - a feature (with additional parts details) should feature on the 'how to' section.

Didn't take it that way pal. It was nice to hear that the parts are readily available and we could potentially have a 'how to' guide.

I was hoping to watch while my evolution viper thing was serviced, but I couldn't get there on the day. All been replaced by OEM filter now, and the viper is in a box in the loft.

A how to service it would be a great addition to the KB.

Will report back with pics and update. :salut:

Kett, I will do a full write up mate tomorrow once I have made sure ive ordered the right parts and it all fits etc,

The guy I dealt with was super helpful and enthusiastic about the car, he was mentioning TWR at some point lol

If you want a quick browse on their site its www.siliconhoses.com

Oh, matt quick question mate as its not clear in the pic above,

Are you still using the "mechano" bracket on the filter or is it solid enough in place with the alloy tubing etc?

That’s the exact kit I ordered from the exact same supplier yesterday evening, fingers crossed it will arrive with me tomorrow. In the mean time today I removed the throttle body and gave it a good clean and removed any deposits that had built up on and around the butterfly valve.

I will have a look at their site as it might provide an easier solution than that which I had been thinking about, thanks :)

Will - would you do a quick write up of dismantling and cleaning for me (and others) mate please? Would appreciate it. Cheers.

I can do, nothing in the post today so far though :(. But once it arrives I will be happy to :).

(Assuming you mean the filter and not the throttle body as I have already put that back together on the car).

Cheers will - yes just filter.

I look forward to seeing the results, did you just send Siliconehoses.com the pictures of Matt's setup and they know what you needed for the job?

So, here we go!

Nice box arrived today from siliconhoses.com, opened it to reveal the contents in all their shiny blue and alloy glory, bearing in mind they arrived less than 24 hours later than I ordered them, top service!

Ignore the extra bit of black foil on the end of the filter, this was removed after these pictures.

So I had a trial fitment of all the parts in their original state, looked VERY cool like this...wish it was fitted in this form as it would be stunning!

Onto the scary bit, trimming it to the right shape and length bit by bit without going too short etc, kept taking little bits off the alloy bend an inch or 2 at a time, at the end I had removed 15cm of length off the air vent side, and 8cm of length off the engine side of the bend,

Also a bit of trimming off the silicon sleeves to get it to sit at the right angle off the side pod and a bit of length off the larger end of the reducer section,

Space is still VERY tight between the actual airbox and the metal framework surrounding the engine bay, so I think I may have to use a small foam packer to stop any contact which may occur over bumps but overall the thing sits SOLID once in place, it literally doesn't move an inch, I have only done a test fit so far but it all seems to work perfectly, didn't notice much sound difference but this was only stationery revs with no load, which is where the filters really come into their own...

Here is pics of the test fit and the trimmed up pipe work :approve:

So the parts I ordered were

102mm dia alloy bend 45 degrees

102mm silicon coupler

102mm > 89mm silicon straight reducer

They also sell all the clips etc you will want, I just rang them and spoke to Geoff, top company and would highly recommend them to anyone

Any other info people require just let me know

^^^ ^^^

Thanks for that Colin. I'm going to order those parts straight away - You should be on commission. ;)
