Hi. I’m new on here and want to introduce myself

I'm Martin Hassett

I’m thinking seriously about buying a V6 and I have found in the past that joining a relevant club enables me to find out some of the answers to questions that would bug me about buying a car like a V6, of which there seems to be less than 3000 made, such as,

Are there any V6 experts out there.
Where could I get it serviced or repaired.
What parts are unobtainable ( if any)
Is the car in the Renault dealer spare parts system for buying parts or does the spare parts man just make fish impressions when you say Clio V6.
Are used parts bought and sold within the club.

I have also found that going to club events and chatting to owners throws a lot of light on what to look for when buying a specialist car like a V6.

I am based in Sandhurst Berkshire. Apart from “transportation“ cars I have a 1997 Mazda RX-7 FD3S (the last model) . I have had it for 10 years and it is stock. Amazingly some still are !!.
I am in the Sporting Bears Motor Club raising money for charity causes and have had my car in the “Dream Rides” at the NEC for many years and also at Kimbolton once.
I am also in my local sporting motor club, Farnborough and District Motor Club. I have done lots of Autosolos with FDMC, but the RX-7 is on the big side for these events and there are better drivers!!.
The last time I saw a V6 was a a Pistonheads Sunday Service at Mercedes Benz World in Weybridge a few years ago. There were a couple there.
I look forward to meeting more members some club events in the future.

Look out for an overweight old git bearing a passing resemblance to Father Christmas (so my wife tells me).

Martin, welcome to the club........you certainly did the right thing in joining up before purchasing a Clio V6.

There are plenty of long-term owners, and experts, on here. However, answers to most of your questions can be found either in the Knowledge Base and/or with the use of a rather comprehensive Search facility. Details of most Clio V6's can be found in the V6 Register.

Body panels, bumpers, side pods are amongst those parts that are becoming scarce.

The club organises and/or attends several events over the course of the year - check out 2015's events here: Events - 2015

I am sure you would have seen plenty of Clio V6's at Kimbolton - quite a few make the annual trip out to Kimbolton Country Fayre.

Cool looking RX-7 you have there. :approve:

Welcome Martin,

Quite a few of our members are well versed in the technical side of the Vee.

Scott (SG Motorsport) in Swindon is the most expert Clio v6 specialist, a large number of us use him for all the Vee needs.

Some trim/body panels are quite hard to find now, but great quality replacements are also becoming available.

We are well supported by Renaultpartsdirect (RPD) see dealer/trader forums.
I have access to the Renault parts system for looking up part numbers etc. Also there are some handy parts PDF manuals in our Knowledge Base.

Most certainly we have busy for sale forum.

The club is no stranger to Kimbolton Fayre, we have attended this for many years now, generally limited to 20 cars. Look through our gallery albums to get a quick idea of where we go both north and south (and Euro)
Silverstone Classic 2016 we hope will see our largest turn out of Vees.

Welcome Martin,

I've had a penchant for the FD Rx7. My first car was a brand new 1994 Mx3 and the FD was the daddy.
If it's any comfort - I've been too terrified to acquire one.

V6 territory is a safer haven! Lol!

Regards
Kett

Welcome Martin. You couldn't of found anywhere better to come before purchasing a v6. Most of your questions have answers on here or in our knowledge base, but do shout if there's anything I can help with. The search function is most useful too.

There's a few local owners of both versions of the V6, I'm over in Lightwater, we have monthly meet ups around Hartley Witney. Your most welcome to join us.

An ex colleague of mine had a silver uk spec rx7. Lovely totally standard car. Sadly he crashed it coming off a roundabout, but he used to rave about a specialist near Reading. The v6 is a simpler beast to run, and is a little gentler on fuel consumption!

Scott at SG motorsport is the most knowledgeable person I've come across when it comes to servicing V6s. I can't recommend him highly enough, will be just over an hour from Sandhurst.

Hi.
The Reading Rotary specialist was probably Rotechniks. I bought my car from them with a 2 year warranty on a rebuild 10 years ago. They are gone now sadly and the man who knew all the answers has now left the Rotary scene as well. I look forward to meeting you. The sunday White Lion meets at Hartley Wintney are cancelled for 2016 according to their website die to "redevelopment" which sounds worrying.

Hi Martin,

Welcome to the club. ;)

Love the FD3S, owned a 95 Bathurst with 17" BBS LM, and a later blue 99 car. The bathurst was awesome, such a well balanced car and the power delivery of the sequentially turbochared engine is really like nothing else! 9000rpm of pure smoothness. Alas, I never really enjoyed the engine note, a bit too 4 cylinder-ish for my tastes; have you heard a 3 rotor swap sound? utterly amazing!!

I went Skyline R32 GTR following the RX7 stint, which seemed the obvious way forward at the time. 550bhp was a bit of an eye opener, the FD was a shade under 350.

TBH, the skyline has pretty much ruined me for fast cars, i most recently owned a 280bhp VX220 Turbo which i couldn't get along with and ended up selling. I picked up my very first Clio V6 at the beginning of December and I feel like I'm finally home. No other car i've owned has quite the same feel good factor about it, it's a rolling work of art in my eyes. Not very fast, but it's one of those special cars that allows you to get your kicks and thrill at relatively low speeds...engaging, engrossing and challenging to learn all at the same time.

The only other itch I feel I have left to scratch is an air cooled 911, but have probably missed the boat with these and think the clio v6 probably offers a very similar driving experience.
