New fuel from Shell

I've always run the Vee on Shell optimax, now they've dropped optimax and replaced it with "V-power" which is 99 octane as opposed to 98 for Optimax.

Put my usual half a tank in yesterday and wondered if I'd notice any difference - well I'm pretty sure I'm NOT imagining it but this new stuff certainly makes the car feel more responsive, has anyone else noticed a difference :?:

i had to fill with 95 the other day :( the car feels shit and has a hesitation at 4.5k..

bring on the otimax/v power

not bad as such...but i always remember john barker saying about his long termer 255..that it was lumpy as hell on 95..97 cured it straight away..seems he was right!

Filled up with "V-power" yesterday. Didn't know it was 99 ron, thats ace!!

My car is running lovely at the moment but I think that could be because of the colder weather also.

If you disconnect the battery the ecu will learn what fuel the engine is running once you reconnect the ecu.....so I'm told.

Just filled up with V Power and without doubt my wallet felt lighter and slipped back into my pocket more easily as it was thinner too.

You use old fashioned heavy cash? :? I have a carbon fibre credit card and I notice a massive increase in money spending

I have always used Optimax in the Vee since day one. Recently I had to fill up with BP Ultimate and have to say the car felt more responsive. Maybe I'll give V-Power 99 RON a go...

My car is standard so ignition timing hasn't been altered, but surely the higher the ron it'll go slightly better :?:

Well it certainly felt so to me :D :D I'm sure if you put BP 102 in you'd notice an even greater difference - not that you could use it regularly given the price

The car will self tune and hence adapt the timing to the fuel that you put in.

My car has always run on either Tesco 99 RON or Opti. The Tesco fuel definitely makes it run nicely but has consistently shown worse fuel consumption (runs about 0.5MPG lower on average) than the Opti. Great news that Shell have stepped up V-power and unless the price differential between it and Tesco's stuff is mad, I'll probably get back into the habit of regular trips to Shell on the way home from work.

Better fuel will help upto a point where a remap is required to take advantage of its properties or performance would tail off.
I tried rocket fuel once and the car wouldn't even start! Waste of money at £1000/litre.

There is a good chance thet 102 ocatane fuel will give less power than even 95 in a standard v6.
It's just the placebo effect which the fuel companies feed off.

Why worry its too expensive anyway. BUT super (97ron) is definately better then standard (95 ron) unleaded.

My brother did dyno testing with optimax (98ron) against other brands of super and noted an improvment tho (admittedly not on a v6). Most other forums agree that optimax is a good bet. I also personally often fill up with Tesco 99 Ron when I get some shopping.

Cheers
Peter :D

There are too many variables to show anything so negligible on a rolling road. The results will just be misleading at best.
That said if it feels nicer to drive with 97, 98 or whatever octane rating then use it, it's there to be driven....and looked at of course

when i had my bmw z3m coupe, i only used optimax, but when i got my v6 i use any petrol, 95 97 99 etc, but mainly 95, and i never once have noticed any difference in the car at all.. i think for day to day driving on the road near impossible to tell any difference well is for me anyway, so im happy to pay 6p per litre less and not know any difference.
