new engine in

hi guys

got a new engine, for the supercharged beast and cant wait.

i have 2 issues if you could please help with.

1: does the alternator have 2 live feeds 1 thick and 1 thin to the same part of the alterantor.

2: just above the alternator in the block there is a brass fitting for what looks like a water/oil pipe? what goes on here?

these are the only 2 things that need doing and we should have it back up and running by the weekend and then it goes for a full remap.

wish me luck.

any help would be much appreciated

Did it blow up or have I missed some thing here.

The alternator has a feed to the battery (thicker one) and the thinner goes to the kit off memory

That brass thing goes no where I think its for a sensor or pipe for one of the other cars fitted with the lump.

maybe you missed something or i didnt fully do a write up of the findings.

compression was low so assuming the rings have gone.

new engine alreay in tho

and a v6 coffee table maybe the future for the old block 8)

cheers

I would have thought that the comperssion had been lowered on purpose? cause of the charger may have skimmed the pistons or some thing.

You done the work your self? fecking heavy arnt they

no the compression ratio is standard. it was low on 1 bank of cylinders.

the engine its got in now is on 28k

all work carried out by myself and the father in law at his garage, bloody thing weighs a ton.

jus got subframe to go back up and fluids filling.

i have a spare engine if anyone needs any parts.

Well done Sam

Its like a glove when it goes back in very little room for error, did you need to change any engine mounts? my gearbox side and rear were creamed.

Also its wort checking the water pipe that sits right above the gear box selecta weight, hasnt been wearing on it. Mine had a nice grove warn into it, caught just in time.

Will have to meet up mine near finished although havent started it waiting for fuel pipe.

well got it started 2day pretty much first turn of the key.

however the same problem exists.

the hunting idle is still present and it wont rev over 2000rpm!!!! so the trip to GDI and them saying a new engine is the answer. kinda isnt!!!!!!!!

i noticed the cat had broken up on 1 side of zorst so removed and took the broken baffle out but still not solved the prob. it got slightly better. gonna do the other side 2mro and fingers crossed.

its a bit tight to work on but not as bad as some other cars ive worked on

Fecking hell [smilie=icon_eek.gif] very usefull info.there sam - DON'T go to GDI with any engine problems [smilie=icon_aaargh.gif] [smilie=icon_aaargh.gif] I'm sure James will be able to vouch for that as well [smilie=icon_eek.gif] [smilie=icon_exclaim.gif]

I would say going to GDI is a was a good idea in a strange sort of way.

well guys the problem is solved apparently

it was a blocked back box.

so hopefully by the weekend the car will be coming home. with a full service including all fluids and a full cambelt. with a full straight through exhaust.

cannot wait. sam (my missus) is over the moon. the mapping is hopefully getting checked on 2mro and pick up at the weekend.

and am a paid up member, hopefully there are some meets not to far afield for us to attend?

Good mate bet your releaved to have the problem sorted now, although miss diagnosing it needing a new engine was a bit excessive. Lesson learnt there I think, did you go back to GDI or else where?

I only live 15min away from them if they have your car you could pop in and say hi :)

we went to a company called http://www.gt40supercars.com the guy up there phil is a legend. hes in horncastle lincolnshire. so could do a meet if anyones near?

we havent had the charge cooler fitted that i have for it as we are going to hopefully be purchasing a stainless exhaust and have both fitted at the same time with a remap in the next couple of months. change of plan means we are keeping the car for aslong as possible

Did you take the heads off the old engine ? ... as the compression was still low on 1 bank so the old engine may still have had issues ...

Sounds great that you are nearly there though with getting the car back to where it should be - well done and credit for your perseverence with it :approve:

Martin

its been a test of patience with the problems this car has put on us but we are nearly there and just cannot wait to actually drive it. we only managed the motorway drive home of 230 miles. not any proper driving

i havent taken the heads off, been real busy, i have a couple of other projects on. which will be revealed in due course. 1 being a williams turbo and another being a clio 1.8 16v track car

the spare engine is going to be sold relatively cheap. the condition is going to be uknown as i simply do not have the time to inspect it. however was diagnosed as det damage on pistons. if it doesnt sell then i may have to strip it and forge it for the future if funds allow.
