New E10 fuel

Well its taken ten years or so but E10 fuel has arrived in the UK.


I first high lighted the E10 fuel compatibility here in October 2010 but I will try an do some digging for some up dated info regarding Renault to see if any thing has changed.
 
With Shell it is only 95 unleaded that will move to E10 , V-power will remain an E5 fuel

Esso & BP has no upto date info yet regarding E10

From a Renault point of view it is still these post 1997 vehicles that cannot use E10
  • Megane 1 with 2.0 litre F5R direct injection petrol engine (1999 – 2003)
  • Laguna 2 with 2.0 litre F5R direct injection petrol engine (2001 – 2003)
  • Laguna 2 with 2.0 litre F4R Turbo engine (2000 – 2002)
  • Espace 4 with 2.0 litre F4R Turbo engine (2000 – 2002)
  • Velsatis with 2.0 litre F4R Turbo engine (2000 – 2002)
  • Avantime with 2.0 litre F4R Turbo engine (2000 – 2002)
 
There's been a bit of talk about E10 regarding older cars and bikes, I might be wrong but it's the rubber in the systems that will be affected, hoses, pump diaphragm , o rings etc, R6 hose isn't up to E5 I had to change to R9 , some of the pipes I replaced on my old GTA with R6 just fell apart, yet others marked R6 were fine, so I use R9 on anything now.
Current bike I'm doing I'll replace every o ring with Viton, little old car will need looking at regards pump diaphragm, other than that I'll be OK
Think money pit will be later cars that have pre crimped high pressure pipes that can't easily be re made with some pipe and a few clips, perhaps pump internal o rings and such aren't up to it?
I'm might be way off the mark, but my understanding is it's these rubber items that will cause issue, rather than an ability to actually run on it, petrol has changed a lot over the years, if you left it in a system it'd just evaporate and leave a bit of gum, whereas now it can do damage.
 
Just to add to this, I re read @Red21 original post, where he covers what I said and regards corrosion I've seen first hand brass carb components corrode badly with E5 and if you've got a steel fuel tank, that will suffer the same fate eventually, I've just lined one with POR15, but read that fertan tapox is 100% ethanol compatible, it's a two pack sealer that was designed for ethanol in commercial applications.

Just about to refit the tank to the 9... will take a look at this. @Big Steve - Raider - for the 11 too.
 
For the sake of £30 worth of goop i'd rather sort it now while the tank is off... they're well known for rotting out tanks so it can't do any harm :)
Just make absolutely sure it's clean and rust free before you put it in, buy whatever it says to pre treat it and etch it, it's a right faff to get out if you go half cock at it .
I did a just over four gallon bike tank with POR15 with US quart can as the smaller size was half that but it stated was for a slightly less than four gallon tank, when I drained it out after rolling it all around I nearly got it all out.... Couldn't sleep because of the expense ...but better to coat it all and chuck it than have it half done.
