Need help deciding what to do with my Renault 19 Cabriolet 16V (Karmen)

Hi.

I am visiting the UK for for 2 weeks, where I have been storing my 1992 Renault 19 Cabriolet 16V for the last 7 years. It is in my sister's garage, and she wants it gone ASAP. I am torn between selling it, giving it away, or shipping it to Canada where I live. It was my father's car from new, has about 62,000 genuine miles on it. Interior is practically in factory condition (except worn driver's seat fabric). Exterior has some imperfections, and not-insignificant rust on the rear arches. It has stood for 7 years - has dead battery, 4 flat tyres (probably need replacing) and won't start - hoping that is due to old petrol. I drove it in there 7 years ago, at which time it was in perfect working order, and was a real looker (picture from that time below).

If I were to get it running, MOTd etc, how much would it be worth?
Does anyone have any experience in shipping a car like this to Canada (Alberta).
Does anyone on the forum want it? It was my late father's car, and I would love it to go to a good home.

Thanks for any input, or help making a decision on how to proceed.

I sent a car to QLD in Australia a few years ago. It's very expensive though. You should budget a couple of thousand pounds for shipping, plus the recomission as thats drive-on-drive-off shipping plus sender costs etc. I don't think you would see much change from £3k to be honest.

If you're giving it away I will have a look at it and take it away if it's not a complete basket case (being honest I have too many projects to take on something rotten or in a shambles of a state). Where are you based? I do have a tow rig to transport it, if it comes to it; as I said distance and condition will be primary factors.

I would guess that there would be some kind of import tax to pay if you ship the car to Canada- I would do some research on these costs before you make a decision.

Added to this there may be some kind of technical inspection / test that needs to be done before you can register and legally drive the car in Canada- I would research that too.

You will also need to source LHD headlights.

Finally think a bit long term, how easy it will be to get spare parts and service items.

A quick check reveals there are barely any of these left on the road and not many SORN'd either.

Would be great to get it saved, guy in my street owned one for a long time when I was younger, sold it to someone who stripped it and scrapped it as he offered £20 quid more than me, sad day!
