21 Turbo My Current 21 In Pictures

Oh no, have you had chance to work out why? It was new wasn't it?
No I bought a 'known used one' and took a gamble......
I kept wondering whether to send it off for a checkup and refurb but changed my mind thinking 'it worked on the car it came off'
Lesson learned

Screamed its lungs off for 20seconds and just went 'pfffffffffffhaaaaaaahhhhh' no more boost and plumes of smoke.

It'll have needed doing at some point eh?

Same can happen with a new one so at least you've not paid top whack. Do you have a pre filter that may have clogged up so it ran dry?
Shame, looked like you were getting back on top of things :(

No mate no pre filter, it'd been contaminated with my oil/water mixing which wont have helped, coupled with the fact it was ? old.
I wont buy another turbo off @DaveL485 again though thats for sure :declare.gif::aggressive.gif::negative.gif::grin.gif::grin.gif::friends.gif:

Thanks lover.

For info, it was the unit from @phil21turbo 's build of the red car, that @lyndon bought from Paul White, the car was written off parked outside @lyndon 's house by an old duffer. We found the car in a breakers yard and went and salvaged what we could. Everything we had off it has been serviceable to now and although it was a risk as 2nd hand always is, there is no reason this unit shouldn't have been fine. Its not like its been run on dodgy oily mayonnaise or anything is it @la21t :-D ;-)

Update rescued after DB issues:

05.webp

Morning all,
I had a rather successful day at Scoffs yesterday.

Just a refresher save you trawling back through everything, last time there my delightful little vehicle made a max power of 297bhp&273lbft @ 27.2psi. Decent enough figures but I was 1.5 deg from knock. This proved to be true as I went bang (split 1 liner) not long after on the way to Nurburgring.

Got it home and decided nows the time for changes and improvement, so out went standard pistons and liners in favour of slightly lower comp Wossner pistons and Westwood liners to add to the H beam rods already in place.
In addition a FBI Motors Europacup style exhaust manifold was added as was a GT2860RS. Booked my space with Scoff yesterday and the results were astounding.

@17psi she made 291bhp&288lbft
@17.5 she made 299.7
@18.2 she made 306
@19.4 we saw 311
culminating in 324bhp&323.8lbft @ 20.4 psi

Scoff asked me if I wanted to continue as he felt there was 'easily 340 odd here' but I run a standard clutch and it wouldn't take it. He then said 'a better fuel pump the right clutch and I reckon we could see 370ish and if you wanted to add a GT2871 then who knows'

Over the moon!!!

Thanks for reading.

Its been a while.....

Over the winter a better clutch was sourced (Mespiecesauto) and fitted, downpipe was 'rehung', a better support for the turbo fitted resulting in no more boost leaks and finally a chance to enjoy the car.
I can happily confirm that after approx 700miles the clutch is doing its job, no matter what I do theres no slip, its very very urgent from 80 onwards.

The winter wasnt so kind to paintwork, I bought a lovely fleece lined 4 layer waterproof make you breakfast in bed car cover and its kindly 'polished' the matt paint in about 100 little places. Its like a really poor camouflage look. Add to that the paint/filler has cracked where the sunroof once lived.....its done well to last 5 years.

I think its time to get a repaint planned. Lunar Grey 21? Or have myself the silver ph1 I could never find?
