Clio My 197/Meglio conversion

I know pads are preferential but I have yet to find anyone other than you that likes them!

I was thinking the same, first I've ever known someone to like ebc.

Had them in the past and would never buy again. We have a load at work that we're given as samples.

It's odd - definitely seems to be very car dependent.

When I was at SAIC/MG we had a track MG3 that we used as a test bed for a cheap race series. On standard pads I destroyed them (like - material separation from backing plate) after 4 laps at Donington on the way in to the chicane. We ordered some EBC Yellowstuff pads from EBC (they had Greenstuff off the shelf and custom made us some Yellowstuff ones) and they stood up to over 60 laps at Donington with a professional racing driver and still had nearly 50% left on them! They really surprised everyone.
I can't stand Greenstuff but the Yellowstuff did appear to actually do the job really well and I would certainly be happy with them. Having said that, I think that for fast road DS1.11 are the dogs whatnots - huge braking and they don't need high temperatures to work according to the force curves I managed to find for them.

Mainly people parroting old information for internet creds. Same as the old "Clio V6 handles shite" line and people whinging about HiSpec brakes. Also possibly people expecting greens to be track suitable - they're not. Have you tried blues? No I didnt think so.

I hurled the 21 around the Alps for a week with a bunch of supercars and didnt have a single moment when the brakes weren't on point. The yellows were excellent when up to temp, likewise the reds in the 172 were well suited and did 30 min track sessions without issue. Even Silverstone, high speed I lost the tyres before the brakes went.

My opinion is based on my brake pedal, like it or lump it :)

Whilst I appreciate that this is subjective, a 30 minute session on track once is not indicative of a good pad. Neither is saying your tyres went before your brakes. That could mean you were running shite tyres!

It wasnt internet posturing either and you have zero idea about my pad history either. Suck it up buttercup.

I said sessions, plural. Thats multiple 30-min plus sessions at CSS Blyton for example. I'd say I did maybe ten or more sessions on track (Blyton, Donny, Nurburgring, Curborough) plus a lot of fast road (in the 172). The 21 I did 5000 miles over two sets of yellows, which included SIlverstone, Blyton, Nurburgring F1, Nordschliefe, Spa F1 and then the Alps. I'd say thats pretty comprehensive.

You havent tried blues because you have been anti-EBC since before they were released. I havent tried blues either to be honest, but I have tried greens, reds and yellows.
 
Back in the day when you were allowed to talk to people in the wild, I was talking to a guy who was part of a team that raced in the ebc series. Part of the regs was to use ebc brakes, the problem they had were multiple dnfs due to brake failures. To get around it they were unofficially told to use what they wanted and were given a little tin of paint to paint the backing plates, that way the racers could finish and the series continue.

How true it was I don’t know but I liked the story enough to remember it.

I’ve used green pads before, just because and I couldn’t fault them for road use. Still got them and would reuse them but just due to age and poor storage I’ll probably get something else when the time comes
 
Sorry to say but the EBC offerings are average at best same as shitty PBS pads. If cs festival goes ahead, ill take you for a hot lap of Blyton in S19SMO running DS1.11 pads to show you the real world difference, they arent double the price for no gain, they are a totally different animal.

DS1.11 in my exige as well . I can brake so hard that the exige shoots water out of the nozzle where it squirts onto the window without pulling the stalk

They are epic. Mart stayed out at Croft for 2 hours flat with them in, no fade, lap after lap breaking consistently.
 
The advantage with ds1:11 is that they work very good from cold, unlike the ds2500 which need a bit of warming up.

The downside is noise, they squeal like fuck when braking from cold/normally. Alright when you are on it.

Other downside is the pads are not really weather sealed, so if the car is sitting outside for prolonged periods in winter it can fuck them up. Same goes for any performance pad if you read the small print though.

I always thought yellows were OK (not terrible but not amazing) from cold, they really came to life when hot though. Not really any squeal either.

Keen to try the blues...they are supposedly as good as yellows on track but with better cold performance. I didnt try them before as they were not road legal at the time so I stuck with yellows, now it seems they are accredited.
 
I use DS1.11 on road and track, Stopping power cold or hot is fantastic. No pad pick up/glasing on track, so no shuddering. I get on the brakes, and get off quick as possible, no feathering, either on or off. I have had/tried other pads, but these are my only ones now. One thing I have found, is that the rears are not fussy on what you put in them.I have had expensive, and cheap and nasty in the rears, and the only difference I noticed, was the cheap ones wore out after one track day. Just my personal experience.
 
New discs and pads fitted, bottom balljoints were a swine, had to get the big guns out!

Nice tight brake pedal now, I even gave the car a wash too. Currently not used it in anger, only done 4 miles so bedding in a bit before I throw the anchor out the window :)
