Mk2 Vauxhall Astra - SRI rep?

I have eyed up cheap Saab’s for the b204, c20LET’s are getting really expensive and the Saab’s seem to be good bang for buck.

You can do turbo conversions on the 1.8 and 2.0 8v Vauxhall’s engines using standard ecus apparently, I have just learned.

z20lets are still kind of cheap but hear nothing but folk having issues with them, if a standard mk4 coupe turbo came up cheap then I would consider that.

Who knows, I’ll probs rock current setup with 4speed untill it really bores me. 😃

Did a few damaged ones back in the day to run myself . They all got sold before they were finished. Popular little car in the day . Cracking job, another bit of history saved.
Did a red Thee door estate in red painted the lot bar the roof in the end .

Thanks guys.

the problem with the paint is I’ve not got enough arm oomph to cut it back properly, the paint just sooks in the g3 before I have a chance.

Final jobs on this thing for the time being was seal up the inner sill/floor sections.
Check all the lights, fix the washer jets and fit wiper blades.

Taken care of all that stuff, I needed to refit the back box I’d taken off before fixing the floor.
but the box that came off it was sorry looking.
And the parts bin held a very SRI-esk twin exit box that would just about fit

whipped the hanger off and on, the box is just long enough to work with the mount as far back as poss.

off cut bit of pipe and away we go.
its got a bit of noise about it. But it’s quieter than it was moving it about for 4 months without a back box 😂

got a pair of orange indicator lenses coming for the wings, then it’s MOT ready

cheers,

Back box looks well. On my old mk2 astra i had a big bore 4 hanging out the bottom for a while, then changed for twin upswept dtm style 😁

Mot’d 😎

Advisory for a minor exhaust leak and a rear brake imbalance.

I’ve just been trundling back and forward to work the scenic route, I’ve been out for a local hurl a couple of times on these sunny days, sun roof open!
Makes good burble’s on the over run, subtle haha

Saturday I addressed the exhaust leak, bottom of the down pipe where it meets the centre section.
the flange was flakey and bendy and shit so I thought I would try and improve that, I had a root about the shelves and came across an exhaust flange, For 2” pipe but Usable.

I’ve no photos unfortunately but I swapped that for the crap bit on the original. Refitted with a bit of paste but the crush gasketis very old, I adjusted and pasted the rear box join aswell and it is much better and less leaky. So I’ve a new gasket on the way just to get that 100%
I’ll have a look at the rear brakes this weekend and give them a service.

only other requirement is some tunes!!

dug out a stereo, I’ve ordered loom for it as I can’t find it, once that arrives I’ll get it plumbed in and we’ll see what the 30 year old speakers are saying 😂

This is still my daily. It’s been over a month!!

the speakers, work. But aren’t up to much.

that rear brake imbalance resulted in one rear wheel locking up on me and me having to ditch the car on route to work. Went back after work free’d it off and haven’t used the handbrake since! 😂😂
I do have cylinders, shoes and a fitting kit to go on.

aside from that minor mishap it works flawlessly. I think the back box is wearing on my neighbours a bit though.. I do have another one that even has some baffles in it. But it’s still not ideal, might have to buy something lol

It wants some different wheels,

and I think before too long is probs going to want a clutch too.. But we all know what that means..

I had the same issue of a rear shoe catching and locking a wheel on my old astra mk2 years ago. Shit meself at the time😆
