MK1 Thermostat/Brass Bolt issues

V6 Ade

Ive had fluid missing from the header tank over the last few weeks, nothing major but missing all the same.

Have been looking long and hard most days when just topping it up but never found anything, well last night i did.

I've traced it to the Brass 6mm allen head bolt that's sits in the thermostat housing. Just as i touched it it shot out the hole and coverd my hand in hot Anti-freeze, not nice  .

When i did find the bolt, only the head and 3 threads were left, the rest was still in the hole.

So, stripped all the thermostat housing etc... out last night put on the bench and got the rest of the broken bolt out ( which by the way is hollow ) by 11:30pm, didn't think that was bad as started the job at 10:15pm, bet it'll take longer to put together tho.

This morning i've ordered 2 new brass bolts + washers, new thermostat and rubber gaskets from main dealers, it was only last year i fitted a new thermostat but while it's in bits and on the bench silly not to change all.

So are these Brass bolts bleed screws? As there's one each side of the thermostat, inlet and oulet of flow.

Would be nice to know if they are bleed screws as it had cambelt and water pump etc done at dealers couple months ago.

I'm taking a big guess here that this picture is the thermostat area.

There's a screw (Item 9 appears twice) which has an unusual description for just a regular bolt.
