Megane R26 for me...

Hi,
Not posted for a while whilst I have been considering my options on a car I will buy later this year.
I was all guns blazing for a classic 5 turbo - but having taken on board comments from people on here and on Facebook and various offline comments I have changed my mind for a number of reasons:
1. People saying that even a mint example is still a 25 year old car and could have mechanical problems - when I know zilch about car engines etc.
2. If I bought a mint one I would want to wrap it in cotton wool, drive rarely and only on sunny days etc. I don't even have a garage so I would not be able to look after it as I would like.
So, looked at and researched Clio RS's - decided they are too small for me should I want to take the missus and kids for a spin - and it seems limited from the point of view of modifying for more power?
Finally (I think!!) I have decided on a Megane R26 - larger inside, more scope for mods - and I have always liked the 'shaking that ass' look!
And, looking at prices you seem to get alot of car for the money - I don't really want to spend £10K+ on an RS250 but should be able to get a really nice R26 for £6K'ish?
I would not feel that I need to wrap the car in cotton wool and would leave it on the drive and use possibly daily.
I know we all have our preferences as to car etc but does the above make sense bearing in mind what I am looking to achieve from buying a performance Renault?

My R26 was rock solid.
I kicked its arse , but I stayed on top of maintenance. Lots of stupid bits need changing , and window regulators fail. The brakes and suspension arent particualrly cheap to fix , and the clutch is expensive if you dont know where to go for parts.

For me , I am not sure there is a fast car for £££ on the road. Take a look at my glacier white r26 thread Glacier White R26

I have had both.

The five stinks of fuel and oil , its raw , its loud.
Its also a great blast.

The meg is more refined , a lot faster but more fun ? Not so sure ..

I'll 2nd what Andy says .. The R26 is one hell of a great car. I sold mine in December after 6 great years of ownership and still miss the bloody thing :( .... and i miss that diff aswell.
Keep on top of maintenance and try and buy a nice honest car that the previous owner has not ran on a shoe string and you wont regret it.

I think you should aswell ..
Hell, I may even buy another one day.

I think the 250s and 265s etc are awesome cars and in certain respects are better than the R26, however the other way to look at it is that the R26 was the last of the Renaultsport Megane breed that was a good old fashioned hot hatch before they all went high tech full of fancy gizmos ... The R26 is just good old fashioned fun, hop in and drive it and that's what it's all about.
