Megane Megane GT165 stinking of eggs and lack of power - Now sorted but white / grey smoke at every stop

As in my welcome thread I have an 07 Megane GT Turbo 165bhp petrol, last few weeks its had a misfire / missing, this last week in the cold weather its been horrendous, so ive just fitted a used set of Megane R26 / 230 injectors and coilpacks...

And ive fuked it, cleaned everything as ive went along and checked everything is right, just taken it out for a test drive and it gets worse the longer I drive, holding back when revved, not as quick, doesn't seem boost as hard, STINKS of eggs so pretty sure its just mullered the cat and doesn't tick over great (almost stalls)

?Whatve I done wrong? I thouroughly checked on the injectors that they were the same, 3 places listing the same injectors for 165 /205 /225 &230, 2 places offering to sell me same as ive fitted (blue band r26) mine original are a dirty light brown colour which I believed to be the same as early 225 inectors so no issue swapping, coilpacks are Genuine Beru, @andybond I swear you had one of these syptoms in an old thread I read?

I expected them to be genuine MM injectors, they wont be exclusive to the Renault Megane/Laguna/Espace, they will be most likely used on other cars, I'm used to dealing with Alfas/Fiats and theres shit loads of Magnetti Marelli parts on those notably cheaper if code searching and miss out the alfa tax, especially when it comes to Alfa GTA parts

The auction is as above, listing as genuine items when they aren't even remotely branded by anyone which shows what a quality outfit made them, they are as I posted above supplied in bags marked Magnetti Marelli and at £40 a pop I did expect them to be real, hell I can get R26 injectors, set of 4 Genuine delivered for £162.50, I'm after lower spec questionably more common injectors and cant see why I'm struggling
@andybond I have looked all through RPD website but they don't list the injectors on there, they do list the 225 ones on bay though but them only.

the ironic part of it all is as you said tutuur this might not be the problem anyway though I'm bemused how this injector from cylinder 3 broke when I had got 2 off easily and this must be atleast the 2nd set of F4R injectors I have changed, (I have had a Clio sport with 3 engines and fitted an 182 F4r in my scenic so I'm used to these engines to an extent

Well despite messaging 2 companies on Wednesday and one mentioned on Thursday ive heard bothing back since, I guess theres not a lot to be made on them, oddly the two quotes I got from Renault garages differed, the second one giving a better price by £8 despite the other offering me trade price apparently (I used to have my own business and an account with them) so theyre a law unto themselves, I 100% decided I'm not paying £80 each for 165 injectors, I will rob the Scenics turbo and the r26 injectors and have it mapped first

on Tuesday having sent the FAKE injectors back I purchased a used single from ebay, a risky chance in my eyes but I needed something temporary, cars sat about all week while ive been walking on the school run etc but yesterday I had chance to start sorting it so half hour later, R26 injectors out and old & new used example all cleaned up and put back in and fired up first turn, idles better

For anyone coming to read this thread from search 225 / 230 / R26 injectors DO NOT go in a 165 without custom mapping, they literally made the car undrivable

Been driving the car about all last night with the mrs and its behaving, she thinks its quicker but I haven't noticed that part, the BAD part at moment though and is either still an issue present or something has got altered whilst apart, the miles per gallon is horrendous, when driving like a mad man earlier assessing for faults and clearing the exhaust /cat of the fuel or whatever was sat in there it was doing 14.3 MPG, a figure i haven't seen in 2 months of having the car, driving swiftly like I would on usual way back in mornings it was doing 18-19 and whilst driving like miss daisy when we were just going about shopping etc later on in the night the best its gone upto and levelled at 21.3 MPG, I reset it twice and have rechecked every connection underbonet 3x, I'm baffled but assuming its the car just keeping me on my toes, I had thought it could be a contaminated / coated Lambda but reading up on such suggests it would burn off within a few heavy miles and ive done around 30 so kinda ruling that one out

Thanks for all help guys, @tutuur especially telling me from the off the injectors would never sort themselves stopped me pissing about with other stuff till they were back to normal.

You need to get it plugged in to CLIP to see the sensor readings buddy, something is wrong if its bucketing fuel in and the best way to diagnose it to get it read with the proper kit otherwise we are pissing in the wind.

Yes a headstrong wind at that :bj: Agreed Dave, another job for this week :av: hoping find someone with clip other than main dealer, they quoted me when I had the car iirc £42+vat which I assume is an hourly rate charge rather than a diagnostics plug in charge hence going no further than trying android torque, I was quite surprised theyres no members list for clip owners like theyre is for Peuegot owners that have Pugplanet software but I suppose the Reanult clip is all hush hush china copies that no one wants to own up to from what I can gather :read.gif:

Well went local Renault today and kindly asked at the service department if they could have a tech plug my car into clip and check for possible error codes, something I thought simple tbh and a nice quick earner, however I was given the Spanish inquestiton

"how long has the EML light, that's the engine management light, been illuminated for?" - it hasn't and still isn't

"what makes you think there is an issue with the vehicle then? it tells you when there is, its quite an intelligent system" - It has had running issues intermittently and I believe even if no current error it will have previous stored codes

"we cant just 'plug it in' it will have to go into the workshop for diagnosis you see" - why? No offence here but I don't want you to fix it, I want the electrical 'oppinion' of what may be wrong with it

"yes we cant do that" - okay how much for you to take it into the workshop, plug into clip and your technician tell me what the computer saids BEFORE he attempts to remove parts of my car and possibly cost me more money

"well we charge an hourly rate, it would come under that plus any parts needed" - no parts needed, just the coded reading, if any and how long will it take him?

"well we will have to book you in for next week but I cant say how long it will take" .....


I give up at this point having wasted 10 minutes whilst the kids were going mad waiting about, tempted try my old trade mate and see if his snap-on gear does actually bring anything up

its now running okay oddly, some slight missing on the odd occasion with no set rule, MPG on 32-34 most be town runs for mrs to work however for last couple days ive been thinking every time I set off from a junction it is smoking, even after half hour of being out and it off cold running mode etc, confirmed tonight by a friend following in traffic, every time I budged forward it puffed a cloud of light coloured smoke, WHITE imo (I can see it clearly through black tinted windows at night) from the exhaust.

all fluids seem usual- So im leaning towards a dead turbo... cant remember if theyre water cooled on these/RS as assume that its the water seals going on them that causes white smoke, either way I want know if the car knows anything before I go playing with the Sceninc parts stash
