...and one that has done 70,000 miles at that ;)

We've had this topic on here before, 70k is nothing for this engine.
Probably just about running perfect.

The running gear isn't lightweight either, so shouldn't need anything more than 'consumables'.

It's the low mileage cars that people should be worried about.

Agree, but in the Vee world, mileage (along with colour) seem to be significant USP's when it comes to influencing a Vee's desirability and price, which in my experience are not as important with other marques - condition and service history are of course a must.

That should say 'but in the UK vee world'.
It's of much less importance elsewhere (not ignored, but much less!).
Prices here will always be different from europe as long as the UK works to different criteria.
When we base the prices on condition and history as 1 and 2 and mileage a much lesser 3 like europe, then we can complain that Vee prices are poor here compared to europe.
Colour is a separate issue.
using stupid criteria for our pricing = stupid pricing.

Yes, I was referring to the UK Vee market, so my comments were made with that in mind (e.g. as things stand now, it is impossible to think that a 70,000-mile Vee will sell for anything like £20k in the UK). However, once they are rare enough, due to attrition caused by exports, accident damage or by people simply holding on for the long term, by the laws of supply and demand, prices can only gravitate towards those set by the rest of the continent, or even more based on the fact that RHD cars will be a minority.

Agree colour is a separate issue, but one that surprised me (i.e. difference/deviation in price dictated by the UK market where the key differentiator is the colour of the car). Does this also applicable to the rest of Europe, and further afield? However, personally I hold condition, history and provenance as a priority over all other criteria.

Now sold and parked safely here!! Stone deaf after the run home [smilie=icon_eek.gif] , just like sticking your head in Concorde's afterburners! Will have to do something about the noise before I get lynched by the neighbours, but who cares?? In love again with a smile a mile wide, ear defenders have always been useful for shutting out excesssive noise!!

It must be a liquid yellow thing, just borrow some ear plugs off Matt as he keeps his well stocked with ear-plugs ;)
Lovely car Simon and by the sounds of things you'll enjoy it :race:

Good going Simon. What exhaust does it have?

Hope to catch you at a meet sometime.......

Supersport, LOUD!! plus fortunately a standard back box with it!! Fine when it is being given a bit of welly but trying to do a steady 60 70 in traffic the booming is unbelievable!! Got some Peltor Optime 3 defenders and discovered that the radio was on and working!! Zoe Ball on radio 2 into work!! Will try the std box back on at the weekend and then make a decision, will probably end up with a compromise somewhere along the line, Viv is mellowing to the racket but admits that she prefers the noise levels in the Gordini Cup, she didnt think we could get louder than the 2.4 Mi16 CTi or the 8 Gordini but this has proven wrong!! LOL, that must be a "Quicksilver OMG" then, as it is known over here.....don't think I have heard one in real life, but from what I have gathered, ear plugs (defenders) are a must......

I am sure once (if) you now put the standard box back on you might find things are a bit too quiet, not to mention the extra weight you have just added to the rear of the car ;) However, if you do find the standard back box too quiet then check this thread out: JANSPEED BOX & DE-CAT LINK PIPES FOR MK2 or you could get an Orbisoud. A search should bring up plenty of info on that.

Congratulations on your new purchase Simon! You have got yourself a lovely car there.

The best after market exhaust is the one that you personally prefer, for you. My prefered system by far is the Janspeed.. 8)

Congrats on the purchase

I'll confess I've not heard loads of exhausts, but I'm really happy with the decat Janspeed on mine

Put standard box back on last night and what a difference!! Looking at the Superspeed OMG box, it is a very dubious piece of engineering, when I had the box off i took the car for a blast up the road and the sound was better without the painful resonation, a quick look shows it to only be a resonator box with no damping, fitted with perforated internals with a 90 bend in each, flow dynamics will be absolutely sh*te!! A simple twin pipe crossover system would work so much better as this box has the engine fighting against itself. probably time to break out the TIG and some 316 and see what can be done on the flow bench, something similar in concept to the Devil system on the 310 and GTA V6s.
Performance now seems better and the engine note and smoothness much improved, certainly better pick up for overtaking!!
To start to put the gremlins of the 'Accident' to bed, I will be going to see Rick, the first owner when it was released from Renault, as he has a video of the bump at Cadwell as well as all the invoices for the parts used along with more photos. I will see if I can get it all in a format that can be put on here so that the history of the car is correct and nothing is hidden. I will be taking the front end off to get it repainted later in the year as the bumper certainly is not a perfect match after the last squirt of paint it recieved. This will give a good opportunity to really analyse the nearside front corner and put up some definitive photos, checking with an endoscope the other week showed very little if any distortion but did show a small area of light surface corrosion that needs to be tackled!
