Loltus Exige

I took my car upto Jonny at Performance Autocare - Lotus Specialist on Saturday. Its fantastic he is open Saturdays as I am often losing money taking the car to a garage as I am a contractor and it also meant I got to spend some time with Wife Bond!

Rear discs , pads and fluid was changed out ( Motul RBF 660 ) but not the supercharger belt. Reason being is Jonny spotted the bottom pulley bolt was almost out! Its no wonder the belt was squeaking, the pulley was walking side to side! This has been corrected now.

I drove the car back home and it feels super smooth now, but I have managed to pick up some scoring on both front pads which is a bit frustrating.

Very happy with the car!

Something isnt quite right on my nearside front pad. After a short while I get a clack , clack , clack sound. I can only assume its the pad touching the disk and the vanes. If I press the brake ever so slightly it goes, then returns 30 seconds later.
Braking feels fine, nothing is pulling to the left or right.

Ill whip off* the front wheel tomorrow and disassemble the caliper / pad and look for any abnormalities.

* no whipping at the car is low and I have to drive up onto some wooden blocks to be able to get my low jack under ...

Which pads were you running again Andy? Used to get a bit of pad rattle on some o the fancy/more agreesive pads on the vx220's and needed to chamfer them and on some add some backing pads

Done a trackday in them and its only started recently. I suspect its just wear and they are rising and falling in the carrier.

I remember the carbon lorraine bodies were made to be a fraction smaller to allow for expansion on track and used some anti rattle silicon stuff which seemed to help rattle. Can dig it out of of tool box tomorrow and let you know make

Joys on MOT place having no idea of the car and everything is hidden ;)

And addition of the slightest knock or play equals failed suspension on a normal car lol

I thought I’d got rid of the dash staying on but it appears not it’s intermittent in what it does

I believe it’s something to do with one of the fuse holders in the engine compartment.

I also have the odd gremlin where the car won’t start. I hear the pump for the charge cooler start, the fuel pump prime then nothing.

Sometimes I keep the key in the ignition phase ( start dammit phase ) and it starts after 5 seconds or so. Other times no dice.

Again , a wiggle of the fuse boxes ( co incidence ? ) and it tends to start.

I have been out tonight to remove the fuses , clean the terminals and replug them.

This only seems to happen when it’s been damp , or raining!

I have fixed this issue.

I swapped out every fuse , cleaned all the fuse holder bits and no difference.

Cue more swearing.

I went back to the drawing board ( internet ) and downloads the schematics for the exige electrics. I get electrics , I can follow them well.

I noted a 5A fuse for the power to the ECU. I took out this fuse and the bloody car still worked as before. It made no difference. Right , next ...

It led me to one of two things.

1) failing MRFU
2) immo failing

Well, I don’t think it was the immo as it was acting impeccably. As in won’t start without the immo being deactivate ( when it does start )

I had a look at the MRFU location and to be honest it’s a bastard to get at from above. However I did note the ECU ( aftermarket ) has a custom loom adapter..

I pulled the loom from the ECU. Blew on it ( for good luck ) and pressed it back in.

I have only gone and bloody fixed it! Crap connection to the ECU it appears!

Car starts every time and the dash goes off as it should.

I havent moved the car for nigh on two weeks. Nothing negative to report. The prospect of taking it out on a cold , wet dark winters evening if I didnt have to just doesnt appeal currently.

Had a look back at some summer pictures and just love the stance and presence it has mind on the road ..

So the mighty car mods videos are not doing a lot for my research into making the already pretty quick exige go that little bit faster.

I have literally just had a eureka moment and worked out that my car really isnt a katana car any longer. I literally do not have anything on the katana other than the mp62. No katana manifold, no injectors, its all been swapped out with the lotus kit.

Now, this brings me onto some very , very naughty thoughts about "upgrading" the supercharger to a Harrop TVS1320. Same boost, less heat , more power ..

Almost like someone made a kit ready for my side mounted charge cooler.
