Lightweight Flywheel + uprated engine mounts??

Hey

Searched but couldn’t really find any specific info on a lightweight flywheel available for the mk2 v6??

Read that the Trophy flywheel and clutch assembly will fit but running a stronger clutch could be to the detriment of the rest of the drive-train?

Anyone running with just a lightweight flywheel??

Also my last few cars I have installed stiffer engine mounts, really love the feel that they give, much more positive etc..

Is there anything like this available for the Mk2 v6?

Thanks in advance

Jonny

The Trophy fly wheel + clutch I think you will find is not suitable for normal driving.

Soon build up the leg muscles for the next Olympics

I've had a lightened flywheel made for my Mk1 by Titan and should have pictures within the next week. This will be combined with a standard motorsport clutch.

Not sure about a stronger clutch being detrimental to the rest of the drive train.

I believe MikeT did experience issues with driveshaft windup but then he's clearly insane trying to put > 400bhp though them :-)

Mine will be running Trophy flywheel wth Tilton race clutch.....they had to make some plates for me as the Trophy gearbox spline is different to the road car.
Mike and I also run solid engne mounts....custom made.

Do the solid mounts really make the gearbox noise and engine vibration too much for road use would you say?

Just within reason really, can put up with pretty much most things, Cooper S stripped out, cage etc straight pipe..

Mike and I both run sealed bulkheads which cuts the noise down considerably. Having said that it's far louder than the standard road car.
Vibrations are not a problem.
It all depends what you expect/want, mine is essentially a race car on the road, it will be unpleasant for most.

Where did you get the mounts made? Were they cut from billet?

Yeah its kind of the way im wanting to go with mine, not really strip the interior but have the engine and drivetrain pretty sorted.

Was hoping to get some weight out of it if i could but really there doesnt seem like theres much you can do apart from strip the road car part of it out..

Thanks

Mounts were made by Spot on Cables, it's a one-man-band engineering works. Hywell has fabricated a few parts for us. The main one to do is the lower engine mount, we've basically got two large rod end bearings mated together, I had a pic somewhere but cannot find it at the moment. I also had the others remade with a more solid polyurethene.

Saving weight is a case of throwing things out from inside, as you say. Seats are good place to start, they're very heavy!!

Found that pic of the lower engine mount......this is the one to get sorted.

ahh i see what you had doen there, thats cool..

Yeah lower mount on the S3 and golf was the major one to do, doesnt look like that would be much money to make either.. hmm

Thanks

That standard engine mount is really poor on the Mk1 and uprated (totally different) for the Mk2.

I like the idea of the solid mount only cocern is the stress it might put on the subframe mount point, as if the hole becomes elonggated major work needed to repair it.

Mk2 subframes are beefed up as well compared to Mk1. I have a Mk2 subframe on my Mk1. I'll let you know if it wears out........

Yes much stronger I am goung to fit a Mk2 mount on mine and will be moding the subframe to suit.
You can see why it was changed when you compare the 2.

Are there not stiffer bushes to fit into the stock engine mounts available from anywhere?

Possibly, I'm not aware of any though. I had some made by Damax when they were doing some other work on the engine a while ago.
