Leaks, Leaks, Leaks

I have a number of minor leaks with the little Ph1 Vee. After spotting a spot of oil on the driveway I jacked it up on axel stands and had a closer inspection. As far as I can see, I have 3 leaks.

1) Gearbox sump plug
There is a leak coming from cooper washer and sump plug which needs replacing (will talk to paul @ RPD). Question is, if I drain the oil and replace, how much oil doe it take to replace? Any other tips for replacing the gearbox oil?

2) Engine Sump gasket
If I run my finger around the engine sump, it's wet with oil, so I'm assuming I just need a replacement gasket.

3) Powersteering pipe
One of the pipes coming down from the powersteering bottle is damp with the red oil. I have wiped it down and will check again at the weekend to see if was just an overspill from whenever it was last topped up. However if it is a leak, will I have to replace the whole pipe or doe it come in sections?

I would take it over to Scott, but these look straight forward enough and also allows me to become more familar with the motor.

Not sure on the other two but the gearbox oil is very specific so make sure you get the correct stuff [smilie=icon_exclaim.gif]

Cheers. I should really check the knowledge base more LINK.

Capacity: 2.2 litres.
Type and viscosity: ETL 8275, 75W 80W

Gearbox filling info in the knowledge base http://v6clio.net/manuals/general.pdf sections 05 & 07

there is also a wee tool for filling the gearbox.

More info here

Scott will be able to tell you which oil is available for the gearbox.

Quite a few pipes showing.

This, i currently have the wrong stuff in mine! It's incredible hard to change gears until it's warm. 1st is a no go, 2nd and 4th engage. Pain in the bum. I had the right stuff, just forgot to give it to the garage! Numb Nuts!

I had problems with my power steering couple of years ago. To replace the original with an OEM part will cost sh1t loads. I looked into it and it would be cheaper, easier and more time effective to get one made by a hydraulic hose specialist.

However, the unions are fitted with a tiny O ring which as a plumber would cost me about 5p. . . . . Renault charged me £3 for theirs and it fixed my leak instantly.

Cheers for all the help chaps. Had the motor up on the axle stands again at the weekend and the engine sump was a doddle. For the gear box sump plug, interesting I emptied 4.5 litres out considering it should only have 2.2. litres in there!

The power steering definitely has a leak which I need to pin point, but apart from that everything was a breeze to do. Even gave the brake calipers a clean up and dab of red paint.

I do have to say I am always a little jittery about getting under a car. Mainly because my neighbour was under his car that was up on axel stands and the thing gave way and killed the poor bloke. Needless to say I had 3 axle stands under the motor plus both rear wheels off and under the sides.

Be carefull about replacing power steering hoses with standard hydraulic hoses. On my Audi 100 V6 the power steering hose went, replacement hose =£300 so my dad got a standard hydraulic hose made for 60 quid, ever since the power steering works but vibrates like mad and make a horrible noise. Cut open the original hose to find that it had multiple layers, the fluid entered one layer then filtered through loads of tiny holes to the next layer. This must of acted as a type of damper. I don't know about the Clio V6 one but sometimes power steering hoses can be quite specialist and they're not just a simple hose inside for a reason. Just a thought :)
