Bad news - another PK6 gearbox tale of woe.

The Vee has been into Renault after a metallic rattling noise had developed in 3rd and 4th gear. A tech expert examined the car and has said that one of the bearings on 3rd/4th gear shaft is shot. Renault have quoted £1500+vat just for a new box (all in it was going to be about £2500 [smilie=icon_exclaim.gif] ).

After scratching around trying to find a local independent who seemed to know what they're talkting about and would tackle the job with no success I have spoken to Motech at Ellsmere Port (who seem to be one of the only independents north of Watford gap who get a mention on here).

Motech are going to take the box out and get the all bearings / synchros examined and replaced if needed.

The long and the short of it is the car is not going to be sorted for the lakes meet. Im pretty gutted as i was looking forward to this for ages! Not to mention the cost of getting the repair done properly.

Will keep people up to speed on the repairs.

hope you get it fixed and it doesnt end up costing you a complete fortune, when something fails on these cars its invariably not cheap unfortunately!

Tell me about it! It could have waited a couple of weeks!

Should be at Penrith for 110 mate. Should be a nice drive up over Shap if its good weather.
Let us know if you and Stu are meeting at Kendal pal as might be easier then we don't have to go via Penrith. Kendal should be around 100. :race: :approve:

I've popped Dave (captain) and Matt down to meet at Lancaster - If it's sunny of course

Currently we have no one meeting us at Penrith as Colin and Stu are going to come down to Kendal to meet so we could miss out the Penrith Stop after the A6 Shap. If anyone does want to meet at Penrith then please can they speak now or forever hold their silence
