laguna diesel will only start with a jump

my 1.9 laguna diesel will only start with a jump off another car, or a battery booster. I have had a brand new battery on it, just put brand new glow plugs in it, and its the same. If its warm it will start on its own as it should. I runs fine, no missing or flat spots.

When turning the key on a cold morning, the yellow light comes on as it should, then goes out, then I try to start and the light flashes and the engine just turns without firing. It may fire once for a split second on the first attempt, but it dies and the light flashes.

Its strange how it will start with the help of another battery.

any answers?

thanks

its a voltage drop issue. I assume its a newish laguna?

I dealt with a similar issue on a Megane 2 DCI. It was the same, but if left for 2 days the battery would be flat.

I changed the earths and it seemed to sort it. Well it did for about 2 months then it came back and the starter was cleeding current to earth thus dropping the battery voltage down.

Get a multimeter and check the voltage before you attempt to start it you want a minimum of 12 volts. Then try cranking it if the voltage drops below 10.5 volts then it won't go.

Anyway check the voltage and add new earths as the extra earthing will give benefoits everywhere anyway.
