A few months ago there was a discussion about intake spacers for a mk2 and if these were worth making or having made. well this morning in the post arrived some of these that i have had made, they are a similar shape to the gasket 16mm thick, and fit at the gasket face between the two halves of the plenum.
the question at the time was , "will these work, and if so what performance increase is there?" well ray had some made and fitted and he assures me that there was an increase of 3 - 4 bhp just using these alone, he has told me he has the dyno sheets from TDF to back this up. anyone who knows ray will realise he is not one to exagerrate or mince his words, so i will take this as gospel.
when you look at the design of the plenum it is easy to see how this spacer can help, the lid sits too close to the top of the bellmouth and destroys what is known as "fuel standoff" , obviously as most things the inlet is made down to a price and this is a consequence of this "bean counting".
the only difference between these and the ones ray had made is these are 16mm and rays were 10mm, i felt that there was still room for improvement (bigger area) and this still leaves approx 10 mm of space under the cover. i can get the thinner ones made but only in 12mm and i have not got any at the mo.
i have put these in the parts for sale section. (engines).
oh, and i await your comments.
